I recently purchased a red sponge from my local fish store. They informed me that they are relativley easy to maintain for a beginner. After doing more research today it seems I was mis-informed.

Thank you for the response. I have already started using the filter to cycle the tank, so I can not return it. Should I just replace all the media with foam pads? Is carbon suitable for corals?
