  1. What size hole is in the top of your Durso

i never messed with the hole enough to get it perfected. i just took the cap off the top of the pipe and have it sitting kind of cocked to one side so there's a slight gap to let air in. water level is higher on the pipe than Rich recommends, but it works and the cap blocks out almost all of...
  2. What size hole is in the top of your Durso

thanks for the info. i can't believe i'm getting help straight from "The Durso Man." I'm new to this board, but have been on reefcentral for about a year now (same user name over there). these boards are the best thing that has ever happened to this hobby (metal halide would probably be...
  3. What size hole is in the top of your Durso

wow, that helps a lot. so the hole size is inversely proportional to the flow rate. i was thinking it was directly proportional. i'm probably pushing about 700GPH through mine. i guess i'll keep making it bigger. i didn't glue my cap on yet so i can get a new one if i mess up too much.
  4. What size hole is in the top of your Durso

yeah i saw that, but didn't want to fiddle with it since it says that a very small movement can cause a large change in the system. i may try it though.
  5. What size hole is in the top of your Durso

okay, so i guess i'll keep making the hole bigger. :o
  6. What size hole is in the top of your Durso

I made a durso standpipe for my 90 AGA. i followed the instructions on durso's website. it says that if the water keeps dropping below the intake of the elbow, the hole is too small and make it bigger. well on his site, he says start with 1/16" and move upto 5/64" if needed. well, my water...
  7. EURO REEF SKIMMER HELP!!!!!

well, if you did everything the manual says and it's still jacked up, i'd say call the manufacturer.
  8. Kalkwassar vice B-Ionic Calcium buffer system

i use kent tech CB (equivalent to b ionic) every other day and add 1 liter of kalk mix to the tank every morning. it really depends on what your coral load is. each product has advantages that the other might not.
  9. EURO REEF SKIMMER HELP!!!!!

not to sound smart, but did you read the manual on how to adjust the outflow from the skimmer? if it's not set right, the water level inside the skimmer will be too high and cause water in the cup.
  10. too much light for 29g??

i don't think so. my brother in law has a 250 on a 38gallon which is only 2" taller than yours. he has phenomenal coral growth. you probably won't be able to keep too many low light corals like shrooms unless you shade them. this would make a smoking SPS tank!
  11. electrical connection question.

i wouldn't wrap the connections in any kind of plastic. if something ever did arc and short out, the plastic would only be more fuel for the fire.
  12. electrical connection question.

thanks, i appreciate it. i put a lot of time in planning it all out. i'm very happy with the results.
  13. electrical connection question.

thanks. it's nice being able to have quick and easy control over every electrical component in the tank with the flip of a switch. the panlel i built wasn't cheap because i used all industrial grade control components, but i'm glad i did. they're designed for corrosive environments. plus...
  14. Play Sand?

the same company that supplies sand to southdown also supplies sand for carib-sea. don't remember where i saw that, but it was true, not hear-say. they put the disclaimer on the bags so that if you do use it in your aquarium and something happens, they're not responsible. they also want you...
  15. How much unlevel is too much?

i would get some shims from HD or Lowes ($.99 per pack) and shim it up just to be sure. that's a lot of water to clean up if something were to happen and the tank leaks.
