  1. LED Lighting

bdejong: could you estimate the amount of your Xlamp LEDs needed for a typical 240 l tropical aquarium? With accent to plants. I would like to try them and redesign my controller for LED lighting (since controlling fluorescent tubes gives unsatisfactory results). I have used super-bright LEDs...
  2. How to on computer fans?

???? Since what time? If you connect any loads in series overall resistance is ths sum of all loads (fans in our case) resistances which is naturally bigger number than the one in case of one load. So overall current consumed by this circuit is reduced. No fear of overloading anything at all...
  3. How to on computer fans?

Surely You can. What chip lies inside the controller? If it is a PIC, that's my favourite. Disassemble, if no code protection bits set, think a little bit and recompile. Unfortunately they usually set protection, then one should write own code. Not very complicated. Btw, computer fans do not...
  4. DIY aquarium controller

  5. DIY aquarium controller

Idea of changing temp. scale is good, mine works in centigrades only. Other features, You mentioned, are already implemented in my present prototype: it has 2 dimmable outputs @12V for LEDs and one for vent. Delay for achieving programmed power (user defineable) is also defined by user. Delay =0...
  6. DIY aquarium controller

Hi! Can You point me links for electronic devices (or principles how such should work) for measuring all mentioned water parameters? I have read articles about colorimetric devices but...would they be reliable enough? I mean - dust and possible carbonates (hard water) and algae could spoil...
  7. DIY aquarium controller

Hi! I am developing a new version of the controller with improved features. - user calibrated capacitive water level sensor - output for 2 dimmable ballasts (0..10V) - output for 220V vent - may-be a Ph meter - SMS reporting of alarms (in PDU format, so really old phones could be used) -...
  8. Sig / Stats Generator

A DIY one. Not ready yet, collecting ideas about what it should do. If the controller has a TCP stack, it could be compatible with your system?
  9. Sig / Stats Generator

Really cool! Can You specify comms protocol so that i could program my controller to use this feature?
  10. DIY aquarium controller

Hi, marines ;) ! Encouraged bymany splendid projects displayed in this subforum i thought that my modest controller prototype could be also useful. It is designed mainly with tropical tank in mind (since i have only such) but features could be added to suit it to marine aquariums, i guess. All...
  11. What do you think to my DIY lamp?

Easiest way is using a resistor per LED, like mentioned some posts higher. Of course it means lots of rearrangements. Then I guess that an LM317 connected as current source could be one solution. Suppose using one such stabilizer per one "column" of LEDs? Possibly you could then drive LEDs at...
  12. What do you think to my DIY lamp?

Hi! Sorry to interrupt your discussion, I own only tropical tanks, so forgive, if i understood something wrong... Anyway, I was also interested, how the LEDs of this aquarium are driven. Talks about burning some of them might suggest using simple non-controlled power supply with ballast...
