I wouldnt even consider 1/4" glass for a tank like that.you are going to have a lot of stress points unlike a standard rectangle tank, would suggest at least 3/8" and a bit extra for safety. also im not following how you plan to attach the acrylic base to the glass? Silicone has no weight...

Best way to test this once you drill the holes is to cut the Power on the system, then let all the water drain into the sump. This should stay pretty consistant. After it has all stopped draingingtake a piece of masking tape and put it at the water line, then fill the sump up as high as you want...

who made the tank? Most manufacturers DO NOT use tempered, except on Bowfront Bottoms. All-Glass and oceanic specifically do not have tempered glass on the backs-Guru

Alos, the only tried and true way to make a hole in tempered glass is using a laser, which by the time you are done would cost more than buying a new tank that is pre-drilled. Just a FYI-Guru

I have PVC Primer and Glue on all my Parts, and it has been running for many years without any apparent Problems. Just make sure it is DRY before you run water through it. I let mine cure for 4 days before i even leak tested it. Guru

Also for clarification, you do not want to cool the bulb itself or you will affect the spectrum. the heat is what creates the spectrum 6500, 10k etc. If you directly cool the bulb it will shift the spectrum (not sure which way) What you need to a solution to, is how to remove the new excess heat...
