I have tried the DSB as well as the 1 inch sand bed, and no sand bed. I had the easiest experience w/ the 1 inch bed. The only advantage the DSB had over the shallow is that I never had to do water changes. With anything less than a 4inch sand bed, I have had to stay consistant w/ water changes...
