  1. red chili coral

Sounds like I'll try it! I have a 180 with mh/vho and plenty of current. I feed dt's every other day. Wish me luck! Jim.
  2. red chili coral

My lfs has a very nice piece of red chili coral. I'm not familiar with it but it looks pretty cool and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it or knows anything about it. Thanks, Jim.
  3. Need Opinions on Sand Bed Cleaners

Also you might look for the source of the algae. Kind of sounds like cyno. but more detail is needed. Like is it maroon and velvety looking? Either way, I would look at phosphates, light spcetrum, age of bulbs, etc. Just more thoughts, Jim.
  4. Need Opinions on Sand Bed Cleaners

There's a couple of gobies that will keep your sand bed clean but won't clean very deep - in case you have a DSB. I have a yellow headed goby that keeps my sand bed white in a 180 gallon. I had a diamond goby in the past that was also very productive. Some tangs are more productive than others...
  5. Won't stick

I attached it with rubberbands to a rock and dropped it down to where I needed it - works fantastic. Stays put, no one can move it, don't have to worry about sticking. If it continues to be a success I'll glue it to the rock. I wanted to put a powerhead down low next to the overflow and couldn't...
  6. Won't stick

I clean the glass daily, and it seems most suction cups only seem to last less than a year. I was looking for something more permanent. I bought a rio 800 yesterday and wanted to attach it to the side of my overflow but no matter what it won't stay stuck on for more than an hour or so. I was...
  7. Won't stick

I picked up a couple of power heads for circulation. Only problem is after time the suction cups no longer stick. What does everyone else do? If the tank was dry I would just silicone them in place. How about hot glueing to a small rock? What's everyone else do? Thanks, Jim.
  8. emerald crabs, good or bad?

    I've got 7 in my 180.
  9. What gives with my Little Giant!?

Also check your impeller. I take mine apart every now and clean it. Make sure you oil your motor a couple of times a year also. Thats' not related to the flow problem - I just threw that in.
  10. Test Kit question

Different brands test differently, especially Calcium for example, also Iodine, magnesium and a few others. That's because each one tests for different types of Calcium or whatever. As far as Calcium - I dose ReeFormer, Liquid Argonite, Liquid Calcite, And Hardnes/Alk Plus. All NatuReef...
  11. Any reef safe angels?

Most Centropyges (pygmies) are ok. Some do cause troubles when they are adults. I keep a "Lemon Peel" in my 180. Here's some info you can read. http://saltaquarium.about.com/blangelfam.htm http://www.fishdomain.com/fishindex.php3?species=angels
  12. gorgonian problems

Thanks to everyone. It's too late. Came home today to sticks. Whew! that was quick! I'm really at a loss. I did the basics like putting in a high current area and all,I do dose Iodine and feed DT's. Heck I don't know. Really frustrating. I would think they would be easier. I appreaciate the...
  13. gorgonian problems

I watched it for months and it has been doing great. I can't find the name. I expect it's a local from the Gulf of Mexico, since I live on the Gulf Coast of Fl.It is a greyish purple kind of color with small brown polyps. Was "furry" at the lfs but never opened up much since it came home. I do...
  14. gorgonian problems

I purchased a gorgonian over the weekend that my lfs had for months. It is deteriating already. It has brown stuff on it and it blows off leaving deteriation. I have a picture but can't figure out how to attach on this board??? I have a well established 180 gallon reef, many corals, good water...
  15. ID for anemone and for corals?

Looks like a condy to me too. Common here in Fl Long tentacle was a good guess too, but I think is usually has less color or all white, I think. it is another local anemone also. But I would guess condylactus.
