I have a CPR overflow.. Trust me, it's junk. It depends on a powerhead to suck out air that inevitably gets caught up in the siphon space, and the air tube inevitably gets clogged all the time. It takes constant fiddling to keep my show tank from dumping on the floor.
Get a U-tube like the...
When I started building my GARF-style plywood tank, I bought a bunch of the Dow Corning ("DAP") clear silicone caulk for the job. But then I contacted Dow and was told all their products have the fungicide. Had to return all the DAP stuff..
GE Type 2 Silicone is not recommended because it includes a fungicide.
I used Type 1. But be aware there are actually two varieties of GE Type 1 Silicone..
One comes in a red tube and is labelled, "Kitchen and Bath". I don't recommend this one because a GE rep told me it also has a fungicide...
Unfortunately, silicone doesn't bond well to acrylic..
For that, I believe you'll need a "Weld-On" glue.. But you'll have to talk to an acrylic guru for more detail.
When I discussed this subject with GE.. I was told that although this product has been used to seal aquariums, it is not recommended for structural bonding.
As I mentioned in another board.. I had purchased a bunch of DAP-brand 100% silicone.. But had to return it all because DAP told me all...
I've been running a Mag 9 for a return for a couple years continually with no trouble at all. I know I ought to take it apart to clean it.. But it's working great so have had no urgency to do so.
Although I've never had a Sen pump, however, I understand they also have a good reputation.
If...
I agree that there's a lot of strain on top of the view panel.. That's why I reinforced mine with a couple 2x4's.
But I don't think it's necessary to use marine grade plywood. You just need something strong and of good quality like type AC plywood. Need to make sure your joints are strong...
The plywood tank I'm building consists of 23/36-inch regular type AC plywood with 2x4's along every joint. Interior dimensions are 90L x 30W x 29H. It's fastened with decking screws and "Gorilla" glue and coated with 4 coats of ICI/Devoe 233H NSF-rated epoxy paint. I'm going with 1/2-inch...
