  1. My 5 Gallon Nano

Hate to say this: Go Ahead a post your crap on xxxxxxReefXXXXcentral and see what happens...bet your little treasure chest doesn't cut it there. This is Reefs.org not 5.5+afewfishandasmallrockaliveforawhile.org This is like me putting a tang in a 5.5 and seeing how long he/she lives.
  2. My new nano pics

Thanks, I'm getting 30lbs of LR on Thursday. I'll be cooking that in a tote while I get everything together. Lots to do: Build a stand, drill 10gal and mod it, top-off system, lots and lots of plumbing. I also have a 5.5 AGA for a fuge, it might wait. I'll be taking lots of pics along the...
  3. My new nano pics

    I just thought I'd post some pics here of my new nano...I started a thread a few weeks ago and I'm posting my progress. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/ ... CF3232.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/ ... CF3235.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/ ... CF3236.jpg...
  4. need some help with new custom tank build.

I'll probably just silicone the impeller cover and replace it with a better pump later. I'm going to drill the 10gal sump and get that going. I allow room for some mouse pads under the pump. ~dirt

  6. need some help with new custom tank build.

    Here's what I've done so far: http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/joedirt1968/DSCF3228.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/joedirt1968/DSCF3232.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/joedirt1968/DSCF3236.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h125/joedirt1968/DSCF3238.jpg The...
  7. Nano all in ones or using a tank

IMHO, I think it depends on what you want to stock it with. If you like soft corals a nano cube with a few mods would be nice. OTOH, if you want to keep a lot of SPS, I think you'd be better off with a sump and a MH pendant. If you have a sump and a open top your options for heat mgmt. and...
  8. Faux Sandbed or Aragocrete filled BB

I was thinking that if I used a drop-in bottom of any kind I would silicone around and drop some sand over it. If I go with epoxy and sand I'll probably put some clear wrap under it to cure. Actually Knuckelhead, I want something that will go right to the edge with out putting stress on the...
  9. Faux Sandbed or Aragocrete filled BB

Starboard would be another option(the white cutting board stuff), sanded down on the edges with sand glued down with clear PVC cement. One thing I want to avoid is leaving a space around the edges for anything to get trapped. Brandon foam is yet another option, covered with something. I...
  10. Faux Sandbed or Aragocrete filled BB

I'm still in the early stages of my 18x21x16 custom glass "cube". It's going to be a cube because I'm going to partion the back three inches for overflow. SPS will be the focus later on and flow will be on the high end...without getting into a DSB vs BB...I'm thinking about two options: 1) A...
  11. going back to the reef with a nano

Went nuts today  : paid for the light $165 shipped(not bad), purchased a 6 stage ro/di, bought everything for the flow except common plumming parts and squid(enough ball joint fittings for a real party,7 bulkheads), parts to fix my mag 9.5, test kits, dig therm, pump for my Remora...
  12. going back to the reef with a nano

I found another good buy on ebay...Aqua medic penant 150w HQI with a 15k XDE bulb and a 20k Bulb for $153. I think the 20k will be nice during the startup. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 7748046902 I'm going to really take my time on this tank...probably 6 months before the...
  13. going back to the reef with a nano

Thanks len, I think I would be really happy with a single DE 15k Phoenix. I was also looking at a 250W se Retro on Ebay today. $189 shipped free, 250w Coralvue Retro with choice of 10k,14k,20k. I liked this setup because the included ballast can fire a HQI too. What bulbs do you think are...
  14. going back to the reef with a nano

Thanks Len! I been thinking more and more about flow and heat...I have a mag 9.5 that might fit the bill if I add the head of a sump and a squid. If I drill the tank and add a sump I can plumb that 9.5 outside and avoid the heat issues of an intank system pump! I would just partion the entire...
  15. going back to the reef with a nano

I'm getting pretty pumped about this project! :P I just landed a Remora on Ebay for $85. I think this will be a fine skimmer for whatever size tank I choose to build. I'm thinking of 18"x18"X16" or 18x20x16...I can even go 24x24 with a Remora skimmer. I'll wait for a quote on the starfire...
