  1. Chromis killed

Just to throw in a vote here, I would keep the brittle star. Really not trying to start a debate on whether brittles do or don't hunt down fish, but it's one of those things that speculation will never convince me of. FWIW, I've always kept lots of brittles in all of my tanks and all of my...
  2. Blue Jawfish???

They are reefsafe, but how much you see of it will depend on its roommates and where it chooses to make it's burrow. And be aware that they are the very definition of a jumper! Be SURE your tank is sealed off.
  3. Need help fixing busted acrylic tank

Thanks so much for the advice. Sounds good. Think I'm going with this method, then. I'll let you know how it turns out. After I've finished the interior work, is there anything you think I should do to the exterior as added protection? This is an IFS with the built-in skimmer, filtration...
  4. Need help fixing busted acrylic tank

Hmm...that's an interesting idea. Haven't heard anyone talk about that technique before. Have you used it, or just hypothesized? How deep do you think I should make my "chamber"? This seems like a really good idea to me. But again, I haven't done this type of repair, so ??? Got to do...
  5. Jalli light / fan

Probably too late now, but if you can contact Jalli (sorry I don't have # anymore) they will send you a replacement for free (at least they used to about a year ago). If you haven't replaced yet, get the number from your LFS or whoever sold it to you, or have them get it in for you.

  7. trouble with Mag7

Not sure how big the slits you cut in the return are, but be sure to keep them clean. I used to be running a Mag 7 from my refugium/sump back up to my tank, and drilled a few 1/8 inch holes in the return tube instead of using a valve (figured why not get more water movement out of it). Even...
  8. Need help fixing busted acrylic tank

hmm...well, I guess I need to take some more pics. The busted corner is actually a curve, not a right angle. I mean, the bottom is a seam, so of course that's at a right angle, but I think all tanks are a right angle seam where the bottom meets the side, so I'm guessing that's not the corner...
  9. Tips on what to propagate?

Hmmm...are the overflows going to create a problem raising small fry? I would think especially with seahorses...don't baby seahorses gather at the surface? Mine always did anyway, but I can't remember if I ever looked into why that is. But maybe if your water movement isn't too severe they...
  10. Need help fixing busted acrylic tank

Yeah, reading though old posts on RC, Weld On 4 appear to be the way to go for sealing up the cracks themselves, but I'm not sure how to patch it since I'm dealing with a curved corner. I'd be afraid of the whole corner blowing out without a patch though? btw Gary...good to see KS on here...

    oops, forgot the picture...
  12. Need help fixing busted acrylic tank

Have a USAq. 25FBH IFS that UPS damaged when I moved to Cali. Sweet little tank if I can still use it. I've never done any real acrylic work. It's been suggested that I drill holes at the ends of the cracks (to keep crack from spreading) and perhaps "glue" acrylic over the crack to patch...
  13. Anchoring gorgonian frags?

Sounds good, Gresham, thanks again for the help. BTW...back to the propagation topic, just hacked up a bunch of different gorgonians this week, attaching with superglue, and they're all holding nicely. Just find a rock with a hole big enough to fit the stalk into, trim off the "flesh" that...
  14. Anchoring gorgonian frags?

Thanks for the lookup, but I think ours came from Indonesia, just don't remember which supplier. These are a few of the first pics that popped up for Muricea californica, "Californian Golden Gorgonian" though. http://www.divebums.com/FishID/Pages/go ... olden.html...
  15. Anchoring gorgonian frags?

Any ideas on a name? Or have you ever seen them anywhere else? If you're better at keeping records than Mary and I are, perhaps you could at least find out what your exporter called them? I unfortunately didn't look at the time. But yeah, 6 months is about the same time frame, so I'm sure we...
