  1. Who killed my Brittle Sea Star?

I realize that stars require slow acclimation. I acclimated the brittle sea star for about 30 minutes, slowly adding water from the tank to the plastic bag as it floated in the tank. Was that sufficient, or is even more required? The Brittle Sea Star was OK for about a week before his demise...
  2. Who killed my Brittle Sea Star?

More evidence was discovered this morning. Two more segments of leg and a portion of the central body shell were discovered in the vicinity of the original remains. The Brittle Star was pronounced dead at the sceen of the crime. So, who among the list of suspects is the perpetrator?
  3. Who killed my Brittle Sea Star?

I added a medium to large brittle sea star to my tank about 2 weeks ago. For the first week all was quiet -- I'd see him curled up under the live rock during the day, and crawling about at night looking for food. Then, about 3 days ago I realized that I hadn't see him (or her) lately. I began...
  4. Need help to ID translucent critters

OK, maybe you guys didn't see my last question. Are these White Flatworms harmless, or are the a pest that should be removed? Thanks.

  6. First Post Light Questions

I have the Coralife Aqualite Pro 48" model on my 75G tank. It has two 175W DE MH, 2 96W Actinic PCs, and 3 LEDs. I kinda splurged on the unit, but now I'm gald that I did. I've been very pleased with the unit so far. Here's abrief summary of my experience, in case it helps you decide...
  7. Need help to ID translucent critters

Well, that's closer, but still not exactly what I have. My critters have very little color (the only color they have appears to be food inside their bodies), but the ones in the photo seem to have a yellow-ish tint. Also, all of the things in my tank are the same size, while the ones shown in...
  8. Need help to ID translucent critters

Thanks, but no, that's not it. These things are like little slugs. More like a nudibranch. They have no legs, no eyes, no antenna, etc. Just a small clear/white blobs that move like a snail or slug. Also, these things are larger than a copepod -- about 1/4 inch long.
  9. Need help to ID translucent critters

Sorry, no photo, but here's a detailed description of the critters that are crawling on the glass of my tank: They are small (about 4 to 5mm in length), color-less, translucent (see-through), and have a smooth body with a short a split tail. They are slow moving -- they lift up their front...
  10. Freshwater dips

How long should you dip the corals? Seems like I read 10 to 15 minutes somewhere. Anything else to know before I try this myself?
  11. Coral reccomendations for new reefer

I agree with the suggestion of creating a beginner corals FAQ. I've been searching for the same info, but it's hard to find around here.
  12. what to do with my 20 long?

What about a seahorse tank? Everybody loves seahorses. :D
  13. HELP!!! Zoo's Dieing

Did you ever figure-out the cause of the die-off? Did adjusting your specific gravity help? I have some zoanthids that have recently closed, too. Thanks.
  14. Stocking List -- See any problems?

Great. Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I'll be in the market for a bi-color blenny soon. The coral classification thing is frustrating. I see LPS and SPS here all the time, but can't find those terms in my books (including Delbeek and Sprung, Vol. 1). I'd love to find a list of SPS...
  15. Stocking List -- See any problems?

Thanks for your answer, Joew. I'll go for the bi-color blenny. Len, thanks for your reply, too. One question: How can I tell which of the corals are SPS, LPS, etc. None of the books I have use those terms, so I have no idea. Any links for more info would be appreciated.
