  1. my ideas for a 20g

I use Caulerpa and never have had a problem. I also run the lights 24/7 so it does not go asexual. Trimming it often helps also...
  2. 20g reef tank questions

Try to do a light sand bed in the tank, with a deep sand bed in a refugium. I would not use a hang on back fuge. You will get more out of one underneath the tank. Try to do at least 5 watts per gallon of water. You could keep most LPS's, Mushrooms, and Zoos with this set up. A 150w MH or T5's...
  3. Refugium?

I have a 10 gallon fuge on my 29 gallon reef and it works out great. I tried the HOB type and it did not do the job I wanted it to. I could not get enough surface area for a DSB or enough macro algae in it to work for my tank. The only advantage was the HOB allowed pods to be dumped in to my...

    Lookin' good!
  5. Water Movement

I've got a SCWD hooked up to my Rio 2100 Plus and I love it. The pump runs from my refugium to a jet on either side of the tank. The current alternates every 16 seconds between the jets, and they are pointed at the surface of the water. For LPS's I would go with no less than 20x turnover rate...
  6. NanoCube questions

Get rid of the bio-balls. They will eventually become a nitrate factory over time. Try to get some porous live rock. The smaller branch type works. The porousness of the live rocks allow the bacteria to convert ammonia to nitrite, and then nitrite to nitrate, which will convert and be released...
  7. Phytoplankton and Skimmer question

Zooplankton is for corals; Phytoplankton is for filter-feeders.
  8. my ideas for a 20g

Run the lights 24/7 in the refugium so the algae does not go asexual. Don't mix species of clowns. They will fight to the death. This holds true for most all saltwater species in a smaller tank. Surface movement is always good. Try to get a wavemaker or SCWD on one of the pumps to alternate...
