  1. Hermits to cycle 20g?

The reason why I thought this way of getting my tank to cycle is that there is nothing to cause a ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, spike really as there is nothing ‘dieing off’. The fuge is established and so is the seed CC. There is no other life in the tank other than the hermits and macro algae...
  2. Hermits to cycle 20g?

Over the break I thought I'd start up a 20G that I had kicking around. I got it all set up with base rock, very fine (almost sand) crushed coral, 100w heater, lighting, and powerhead. I also put some CC from another of my reefs under the new CC. I had an AC 300 as a HOB fuge on my 33g (going to...
  3. Wife's pet Whelk?

Oh boy do I have a problem…. I was taking a look around my wife’s reef tank last eve and I saw something that needed to go…. a whelk. Well needless to say I popped the little bugger into a plastic container. My wife comes up to me and asks ‘what are you doing with snuffy?’ in a very concerned...
  4. 400w or 250w MH for 33g

For what I want to keep 250W 10-14k will be good. DK, Cooltouch makes a 36" dual 400W Metal Halide canopy. 800W of mh over my 36" 30 gal reef.... now that's overkill. But they must make it for a reason right?
  5. 400w or 250w MH for 33g

Well I'm setting up 30g reef, slowly making my way to a nano reef, but I'm not used to tanks this small. Would a single 400w MH be too much for it? I know more light is better but the tank is only 18" high so could it be too much and 'burn' the softies?
