  1. THE REEF PILLAR

That tank is absoloutly fantastic, what a build! Impressed with the wide range of coral and fish too, especially the Moorish Idol, what do you feed him on and what are your water param's at? I've always wanted to keep a couple of these fish but have gone with advice and stayed clear....! I had...
  2. How to troubleshoot a skimmer

Just like to add that aside from our main in wall display, we used to run a 600L reef tank and let me say that the MCE600, although expensive, is absoloutly amazing. If you think this is the way you'll go - don't mess around spending ££ to fix things, just get one of these and be done with it...
  3. To skimmer or not to skimmer? This is the question!

The skimmer will help you out with the aereation too.....they are a must IMO.
  4. Introducing small lionfish

I've kept Lions for many years and have several in my current set-up. The best way to determine if they're going be enticed in to eating the smaller fish is use the half-size rule that everyone speaks of ... this really does hold true. A 3" Lion would be very interested in a 1" fish...
  5. the office tank...

Wow - nice tank and hope the business is going well. That really is a big torch, very nice indeed.
  6. TMC V2 800 Skimmer

Hi all, Just thought I would update this in case anyone else has trouble with this make. I went round at the weekend and experimented a little...can't shorten / lengthen the riser, so played with the pump. They sent a new one out for him and it works, panic over! I tested his pump on a...
  7. Somethings eating my xenia!!!!

Depends, are you starving them ?! Just kidding ;) IMO I've known hawkfish to have a go at them, but I would be suprised if he or the others did - damels wouldn't and the clarkii is generally quite reef safe - so, that would be my best guess. Although, in the extreme, the ends can drop off or...
  8. TMC V2 800 Skimmer

Good thought.... as far as I know it's fixed length, however on his model because it's the 800 I believe it can be removed to be cleaned so I'll call by from work and check it out. Any other ideas? I turned the water dial all the way down to the lowest water height, for 48 hours, and it got...
  9. Using ozone

IMO, I agree with all the above. I have used it myself in the past before my big tank - and the reason I haven't used it this time is due to being able to make myself a skimmer which can do the job easily (for £30.) I also found it to be highly problematic and to be honest, it really, really...
  10. TMC V2 800 Skimmer

No, I hadn't either - although further investigation told me they sell quite well over here in the UK: http://www.tmc-ltd.co.uk/aquarium/v2skim-skimmers.asp
  11. TMC V2 800 Skimmer

Hi Ladies & Gents, Just a quick question for a friend who cannot access the net' I'd told him I can try help him before he returns his skimmer by asking here. I've never needed to do this, as I built my own, but I can't seem to get it working for him either. He has a TMC V2 Skim 800 skimmer...
  12. DIY Skimmer Microbubble problem

Hi ! You'll be glad to know this is easy to solve. I had the same problem with my DIY 5ft skimmer....basically you need: - Small plastic container, which has to be big enough in relation to your water output, we're not talking huge. - Ordinary filter floss, the white whisky material. -...
  13. Wierd alge issue

What sort of flow have you got around the bottom and back, are there rocks near the outbreak, are they raised slightly off the substrate bed? I agree with the dirty glass statement...deffo one to watch out for. Lee
  14. Pale Green Algae

Haha, it does actually look like the coraline - I've just done a google image on it, however it's not growing exactly like that everywhere but the majority of it is.....I feel like I've just wasted your time guys, my apologies, looks like I've been a little too concerned for my own good! Never...
  15. Pale Green Algae

Hi Grateful Diver, thanks for your continued support :D Skimming: I'm using a purpose built DIY skimmer that I built with a local professional's advice. It's 5ft high and uses a high powered pond pump as power, returning to the tank with a home made - bubble stop (a little like the ones you...
