  1. New kalk reactor....

Hi! After reading few posts and some research I finally built my reactor, see photo bellow. I am not very good in DIY stuff, so yes you may laugh :D . After a bit of thinking about auto injector on float switch or similar systems I read about I decided for something else. Here is a brief...
  2. Testing, testing....

    oooops....
  3. Fan placement, blow in or out

oh, well. your situation is quite easy jgagel. just get 2 biggest (whatever you can esthetically handle) clip on fans from walmart, put one on each side and off you go. You may also use just one fan, nice looking floor/office model.
  4. Fan placement, blow in or out

here is my experience. 2 fans blowing in works much better for me. i first started with one fan in and one fan out. my tank temperature was still high. i change the orientation of the fans so both blows in and now i can take temperature down where i need it easily. IMO, your hood has to be quite...
  5. Too much current???

I have 2 MaxiJets 1200 in my 48x18x18 tank, plus sump return from Mag5. Is it too much current? I want to keep mostly softies, muchrooms and anemone. Robert
  6. Setup help

Depends if it is cured, pre-cured or not cured at all. I added mine, pre-cured, from the day one. Then later on I just added more - to spread money spending  I didn't experience any problems and tank completely cycled in about 6 weeks.
  7. Freshwater

I used peat moss on my Discuss tank with quite success. Only thing is that peat ads light tea kind of tan to your water, but you may like it as I did. I would discourage you from using cola bottle CO2 system if you have some more sensitive inhabitants. I never managed to have consistent...
  8. Question for Photographers

OR maybe buy yourself a tele adapter that gives you extra optical zoom. You should get one for around $50. I think you can get adapter up to 2.5x for your camera. I used one with S50 that is pretty much same camera with more resolution. With 7.5x opitcal zoom and camera on little tripod (to...
  9. Question for Photographers

Digital zoom = image resize. It is computer calculated process to enlarge a certain part of the scene. The quality of the image degrades, because additional pixels to create enlarged image are added utilizing interpolation. rb
  10. PCs tripping GFI.

The lost of the current, that trips GFI, occures when you connect yourself to the ground. GFI, however, doesn't monitor ground - when there is a load (I should clarified this before). GFI compares what comes out to what comes in. When you take something away it trips. :(. Ground monitoring is...
  11. PCs tripping GFI.

A GFI is not dependent of a ground to function. It does not measure shorts to the ground, it measures the current difference between the hot and neutral wires. :) rb
  12. diatoms?

Since your images are badly out of the focus it's hard to see what it is. In any case here is what worked for me to combat brown diatom. I used Seachem Phosphate sponge, since it also removes silicates after phosp. are gone. Cerith snails love brown diatom (at least in my tank). Shortened light...
  13. What can go in?

Here is a picture how my all rock looks like. RB
  14. How much light...

I have 6 weeks old cycled tank with stuff you can see in my signature. Right now I have only 3 damsels and snails in it. What would be suggested light regime for present time? Should I have some periods with all my lights on? Or maybe just use some until corals will be added. IMO, there isn't...
  15. What can go in?

I have no plan to add more rock at this time, based on my reasearch so far. I was more concern about what kind of corals I can keep with PC and NO lights I presently have. Lights are 2 x 96W PC SmartBulbs(50/50), 1 x 40W NO ActinicBlue and 3 x 40W NO 10000. Current is provided by 4 power heads 1...
