  1. Has anyone tried a plenum in a FW tank?l

I put in Lava rock on the bottom of the plenum then wrapped a plastic light screen with landscape fabric to keep the 1.25 inch sand layer from falling thru. I then put another layer of landscape fabric on top of the sand and then put small gravel the size of pea gravel on top. Just wondering...

Francisco, I am not at home but I did run across an abstract about feeding the astathaxin to breeders to improve egg quality. Also found an abstract about adding Paprika powder to foods to help in the same way. When I get back home this week I will look for them and post. I do think...

Wondering on the subject of his presentation? Martin Moe did you go and here him? Anyone else?
  6. Algae culture medium

You will also have to add B vitamins to the mix. Do you have the complete list of ingredients for the F formula?
  7. Florida Bay and copepods - Martin Moe do you have a boat?

Thanks Martin. Your experience is very helpful. Unfortunately I am inland and can not rely upon wild plankton thus my quest for cultured copepods.
  8. Florida Bay and copepods - Martin Moe do you have a boat?

Martin, how long did the larvae survive with the cultured copepods/green water? Did they last more than a week? Was the cultured copepod concentration the same as when wild plankton was added? I am assuming the wild plankton concentration was greater than what could have been grown in the ponds.
  9. Florida Bay and copepods - Martin Moe do you have a boat?

In the above linked abstract, Parvocalanus crassirostris is mentioned to be in Florida Bay. This is one of those copepods that have nauplii which remain under 100 microns for more than two days. They consume most of the widely used phyto strains. The parvocalanus sp was talked about at the...

  11. Thanks Martin and Doug for good articles but

how does the hobby proceed from here. I do see that Frank Baensch is marketing Japanese pygmies C. interruptus. How could a hobbyist on the mainland obtain Clausocalanus, Oithona, Paracalanus, and Bestiolina species of copepods? I do understand that Oithona and Paracalanus are in the...
  12. Is CO2 needed to make Phytoplankton

Seamaiden, many of the phyto fertilizer formulas contain iron.
  13. Bestiolina copepods as first foods.

http://www.cfda.gov/public/viewprog.asp?progid=199 is a first food for amberjack. I assume OI is trying it out on other species. I cant remember if I have posted this already but here is a drawing found on AIMS website http://www.aims.gov.au/pages/research/h ... l#figure01
  14. OI press release: its a copepod as first food for Centropyge

I wasnt worried but just trying to ridicule him so that he would reveal himself by posting a defense.
  15. Phytoplankton

thanks Adam for the tip. Over this winter with my cultures in the garage they were subject to cooler temps. The Iso did seem invincible. I had the 2 liters in a 10gallon tank water bath with temp around 70- 72'F to keep them warm but also to minimize water evaporation out of the 10gallon.
