Thanks Don and John. The question here is: do you think the anemone is safe for small and medium fish? It has very sticky tentacles and seems hungry all the time, it will try to eat just about anything I offer her including my finger.

  5. Twirling Flame Angel after crypto - WHAT"S WRONG!!??

Thanks for the valuable insight. The Angel has acually stopped spinning now and he is more or less swimming stationary which I take as a good sign. His eyes went from cloudy to clear and kind of glassy. He is still not eating, but I am hoping for a miracle. How long can he go without food? I am...
  6. Twirling Flame Angel after crypto - WHAT"S WRONG!!??

Thanks Stuart. I went up to 1.010 today (validated though 2 hydrometers and a salinity monitor so I'm faily sure it's accurate. I'll try to raise to 1.011 tomorrow. All the medications were removed with carbon a couple of days ago. My main concern is with blindness, if he can't see, he can't...
  7. Twirling Flame Angel after crypto - WHAT"S WRONG!!??

Thanks for the valuable suggestions Stuart. Salinity is at 1.009-1.010 (S.G) and as I understand (to successfully treat the Crypto) it should be maintained this low for 30 days to avoid reinfection. Are you suggesting that I bring salinity slowly back to >1.020-1.023? The fish has had two...
  8. Twirling Flame Angel after crypto - WHAT"S WRONG!!??

I have a small flame angel (faily new arrival in QT) that came down with cryptocarrion last week. His eyes were badly infected. He has been in hyposalinity now for a week and all evidence of parasites in gone. He also got 7 days of Maracyn and Maracyn 2 for possible secondary infections...
  9. Dose calcium, get algae... what's up with this?

Hey Cuye, great article, I'll start looking at lighting spectrum more closely as a main source of the cyno, also my dKH may be a tad high (11) However, this still does not explain the DIRECT correlation of Calcium supplementation and cyno (red slime) production. Has anybody experienced this...
  10. 'oil slick' on water surface?

Actually, the best solution is to create a small water fountain effect in the tank where water from a return will fall from a couple of inches or so above the water surface and into the water. This will get rid of all your surface gunk inside of a few hours never to return again. Don't ask me...
  11. Dose calcium, get algae... what's up with this?

Thanks for the suggestions monkeboy. In fact I removed the UV several weeks ago. Please explain why the Eheim be the source of cyno. The cyno only appears when dosing calcium.
  12. Dose calcium, get algae... what's up with this?

Every time I dose Calcium (currently using B-ionic method) I get an alage bloom (unicellular) red nuisance variety. It drives me crazy. Do any of you know how to prevent the blooms. The tank is 1 year old with good params (0,0.10) ph stays around 8.1, cal around 350. phosphates are near 0, I use...
  13. Chem challenge! rasing pH without raising Kh?

Thanks Randy, how do I reduce the Co2 in the tank besides vigorous water agitation?
  14. Chem challenge! rasing pH without raising Kh?

Thanks everyone for the great advise, also thanks to Liquid for the referenced articles which have cleared some things up for me. I don't think I have a CO2 problem as ventilation in my home is very good and have good dissolved oxygen levels though vigorous currents created by 4 powerheads and...
  15. Chem challenge! rasing pH without raising Kh?

Corals look a somewhat distressed. BT anemone whitening. I'm using Tropic Marin test kit for Calcium and KH and an electronic ph monitor, just calibrated. The ph keeps drifting back slowly.
