  1. One more weird plumbing question; distance of pump from sump

Basically, anytime you can make a shorter run of pipe, with fewer bends, etc. will only raise pump performance on the outlet. For the pumps inlet, you have to consider something called NPSH (net positive suction head)... The higher the NPSH, the better your pump will work... And lowering it...
  2. Combining flow from different pumps?

Depends upon flow rating (or pressure rating) of said pumps... If they have identical ratings, they will work together... If they do not, the one with higher flow (or pressure rating) will overpower the smaller one...
  3. New tank - deciding on livestock - any problems here?

Well Emily... I own a mated pair of Coral Bands housed with 6 fish in my 55 gallon... The CBS have never touched any of my fish... They've been together now for about 8 months... Personally, I think this whole thing that people have with CBS is just like having any angels with corals... It is a...
  4. Carpet Anemone Question

I love this line... May I quote you in the future?!?
  5. Something has been bugging me.......

Daisy: Reread my post that you are quoting... IF YOU MAKE YOUR OVERFLOW BOXES, U-TUBE, AND GRAVITY FLOW TUBE TO THE SUMP BIG ENOUGH, YOU CAN ACHIEVE ANY FLOW RATE THAT YOU DESIRE!!! Yes, with what you are saying in "example A" that particular setup would not pass 1,000 gallons per hour... But...
  6. Something has been bugging me.......

Also, another way to prevent siphon back flow from the main tank to the sump during a power loss (other than using a check valve which is perfectly fine) is to drill two small holes just above the water line in your main tank on the return pipe (I chose two just in case I had that odd-ball time...
  7. Something has been bugging me.......

Once again, I beg to differ... Siphon and gravity flow has no restrictions... The restrictions come with the size of the overflow boxes, the size of the u-tube, and the size of the gravity flow tube to the sump... If you make all those big enough, you can achieve whatever flow you desire...
  8. Something has been bugging me.......

??????????????????????????????????????????? Well, I have a "hang on" overflow... Actually, the CPR CS-100... The only way to lose siphon between the front and the back box is for the water level in the front or the back of the box to go below the U-tube or for the U-tube to have a hole in it...
  9. Detrivore Kits and Refugiums

Mouse: I'm sorry to hear that Inland didn't reply to your emails... Since I live so close to them and am there atleast monthly, in their defense, I can tell you that they are extremely busy... Even as a walk-in (who happens to know the owner personally), I still normally have to wait a little...
  10. Detrivore Kits and Refugiums

Ok mouse... Sorry for the long response time... I've been really busy here lately... I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my ability... However, keep in mind that these answers are in my opinion only and may be different than those of others on this board... My fuge is a HOB fuge...
  11. Detrivore Kits and Refugiums

FWIW, I have two dragonets in my 55 gallon... I've had one for about 4 months now and the other for about 2 months now... One is a green spot mandarin and the other is a scooter blenny... Before I added (2 months prior) my green spot mandarine, I went to Inland aquatics and got their mysis/pod...
  12. how many fish in a 55 gallon tank?

roselene: I also have a 55 gallon. I have 1 argis angel, 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 scooter blenny, 1 green spot mandarin, 1 spotted hawkfish, 1 maroon/yellow striped clown. I think I'm boarder line on being over stocked with fish. Hope this helps.

  14. w00t, w00t... Got my new MH setup

Sorry for the long wait to the replies... My internet connex has been hosed the last few days... tangir1: I actually thought about that... And yes, my hood is adjustable up and down... Hung it from the ceiling and also got PFO's hanging kit... Currently, it is 8" from the waterline in...
  15. w00t, w00t... Got my new MH setup

Got my new MH setup yesterday and hung it from the ceiling... I can't believe the difference it makes in just appearance alone (as compared to my PC setup)... I got the PFO shimmer halide hood (48", 175w 13k x2, 96w 7100k x2)... I'm slowly acclimating the tank to the new light setup...
