  1. Sick Fox Fax Lo

Thanks both for your help. We are limited to two LFS where we live. Our favorite called up back on Memorial Day - even tho he was closed - and met up down at the store. He suggested treating the tank with Kick-Ich, which we have been doing, and after one day, the Fox Face looked great! We do...
  2. Sick Fox Fax Lo

Our Fox Face Lo woke up this morning with something wrong. We have had our tank for 18 mos and never any problems with livestock. He has white mottled bumps on one side near his eye and mouth, and on the fine on same side, which made me think it is ick - ? However, it isn't just bumps - how...
  3. High Nitrate, Coral Death, Clam sick

I don't know what you mean by "storm the tank" - !? We have had no fish deaths - aside from a fairy wrasse that jumped out! We have never cleaned the detritous out of the bottom of the overflows. All we do is use a powerhead to blow out rocks when we do water changes, a turkey baster to do...
  4. High Nitrate, Coral Death, Clam sick

Okay, now I am freaking out a bit. I just checked the corcea again and there is a long (5") flourescent spiney tentacle sticking out from it. Should I remove it from the tank right away? SHAME ON ME I have a quanrantine tank, but it is not set up!
  5. High Nitrate, Coral Death, Clam sick

Also....I am assuming our corcea clam is dying, since we have had it since last May and it has never shrunken up like this before? Should I get it out of the tank NOW before it contaiminates it, or should I give it another day or so? We have been sooo lucky that the system has run so well...
  6. High Nitrate, Coral Death, Clam sick

My signature at the very bottom of my first post contains all the info on our tank - 120 gals, etc. As you can see, yes, we use RO water. I thaw the cubes of frozen shrimp in a cup of water that I take from the tank, then just dump the cup of water with the thawed shrimp back in the tank - I...
  7. High Nitrate, Coral Death, Clam sick

Our tank has been up a year now. We have not lost any fish, but have had some coral deaths. About 3.5 wks ago we lost our open brain coral which we had for 8 mos. Up until this time we have always had great water parameters. We tested nitrate - which has always been zero -and it was high...
  8. Corcea clam placement

I think we have it positioned where it can attach itself now. I didn't realize it would do so that quickly. It is really a trick to stand it up and support it so it won't fall over while at the same time not constricting it...if there is a trick I am missing, please let me know! Thanks.
  9. Corcea clam placement

so, do we just lay it down on its side on a flat rock? It obviously can't sit upright until it attaches itself.... ?!?!?
  10. Corcea clam placement

We just purchased a beautiful corcea clam, and have wedged him among the rocks in a high light/moderate current area of the tank. It has shifted down and to the left somewhat since we placed it 2 days ago. I am concerned about the placement. There is really nothing directly below it, but...
  11. Coral Beauties in a reef tank?

Our coral beauty behaves itself quite well and hasn't touched any of the corals in our tank - a mushroom, bubble, open brain, birdsnest. Just added a corcea clam a few days ago, so far so good. Our blue zenia perished, but I never did see the coral beauty picking at it - I think snails were...
  12. Water temp at 89.5 - Help!

Actually, it appears to HAVE been a heater malfunction. After letting things cool down, we replaced the heater and things are fine - the water stayed around 80 degrees all day yesterday, even tho it was almost 90 degrees outside here yesterday. We do have several fans blowing during our light...
  13. Water temp at 89.5 - Help!

    Thanks.
  14. Water temp at 89.5 - Help!

Thanks. I am assuming the Ranco dual stage controller something I can find at the LFS or at an online aquarium site. I'll check it out.
  15. Water temp at 89.5 - Help!

Our water temp rose substantially overnight and I can't figure out what is going on. Our heater was set at 74 as always. We had warmer weather here yesterday (85) but our tank is in the bsmt and it doesn't get warm down here - the air temp down here was 70 this morning. Why would the tank...
