  1. any guesses?

    Any guesses?
  2. Is my clam "gaping?"

Thanks for the info... that is exactly what my gut was telling me (as far as really needing MH's for this animal) - the LFS was housing it under PCs and never having seen one in person before, I was enthralled with its beauty, so I thought I'd try. Hopefully I can still provide a compromise...
  3. Is my clam "gaping?"

Thanks for the info... the tank is 30 gal lit with a twin 96 W PC fixture (192W altogether). The LFS convinced me that he would be happy even though I don't have halides - I have a lot of light per gal, but maybe that was a mistake? Either way, putting him on a rock will move him closer to...
  4. Is my clam "gaping?"

I've only had this guy in my tank for a few days & was hoping this condition would better... However, the more I've read makes me think my clam is unhealthy and is showing signs of "gaping." There is also a small bleached area on the mantle. Is there anything I can do for him?
  5. Shrimp death ... who dunnit?

After months of stellar health and happiness, my shrimp (cleaner) was dead in only a few short hours yesterday. I really want to blame an extremely evil damsel (which I saw tormenting him in his last moments). The only other suspect I have would be the hermit crabs. There was absolutely no...
  6. Current USA vs. CoraLife

Thanks for all the info/advice -- your setup looks great!
  7. Current USA vs. CoraLife

Do you run your system with an open top? I am trying to decide whether or not I will need some type of glass versa-top, or if the lens on the aqualight will be enough...
  8. Current USA vs. CoraLife

After several threads investigating the "cheap" stuff, Ive decided not to waste my money. Looking now for opinions on which is better (coralife vs. current) -- My fixture will be a 36" power compact w/ moonlights (both are similar in price)
  9. Catalina Aquarium Lights ?

Thanks for the info -- It's obvious this "too cheap to be any good" stuff is just that.... Ill stay away.
  10. Catalina Aquarium Lights ?

Anybody heard of them? Seems kinda cheap, so I'm pretty skeptical - but does have full warranty, etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/36-Inch-Power-Compa ... dZViewItem
  11. Is this legit?

How about this one? Kinda same deal, too cheap to think it's any good, but does have warranty, etc. Anybody heard of it? Brand name is Catalina as far as I can tell http://cgi.ebay.com/36-Inch-Power-Compa ... dZViewItem
  12. Is this legit?

Thanks for the info... I figured that was probably the case. I am keeping mostly soft corals (leathers, mushrooms, zoos, etc.) in this tank.
  13. Is this legit?

I am looking to purchase a 36" power compact fixture for my 30 gal. I saw a Jebo Odyssea fixture on ebay and it seems too cheap to be legit... Anybody heard of this? Here is a link (might have to copy and paste) http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUARIUM-LIGHT-36-J ... dZViewItem
  14. fixture or retrofit?

My 30 gal is currently lit with a 20W 24" std flourescent tube (50/50 powerglo). All fish and corals(polyps, mushrooms, toadstools) seem very happy, but I would like to upgrade to PC lighitng. I would like opinions on whether to retrofit my existing, plastic canopy housing the flourescent with...
  15. Newbie needs advice

Thanks for all the great advice! The appeal of a protein skimmer was in large part because I thought I could do away with the bio-wheel… it is very large and mulch bulkier than the Remora would be (and viewing on all sides is a plus). It also sounded like it would be better for keeping corals...
