I've got this brown stuff growing in my sand and on a rock. I'm being told it is diatoms. Is this true?

Got her from my friend but I'm removing my sandbed so she's gotta go. She's about 4 inches eats everything. I'm looking for gobies, shrimps, tangs a Lubbock's wrasse or a powerhead. Will post pics tomorrow when she's out of the sand. Oh she's already past the juvenile stage.

I'm new here and imma start things off with a free sand sifting startfish. If someone is willing to donate a coral you'll be first in line. Pickup will be in my boys crib in flushing. I don't know how to upload pics yet so none of those.
