  1. Dip live rock before placing in tank??

When I got my rock I diped it in FW and out popped a crab and two mantis shrimp. I netted the crab an let him in the tank. We merley dunked each piece in for about 30 seconds. The rock has grown al kinds of stuff, even a pink feather duster. I didn't put it in there so it must have came on...
  2. FREE TO A GOOD HOME!

I thought of that but I can't afford it since I lost my job...... If I were just transfereing I could do it. If I don't find another hobbyist to keep them I will sell them back to the LFS but I was trying to keep the pals together.
  3. FREE TO A GOOD HOME!

For any one in the Charlotte NC area, I will gladly let you have my livestock as I will not be able to support them in the coming months since I am having to relocate and do not know where I will end up. I have the following. 1 A Yellow tang, 3-4" good health and fins are always erect 2 A...
  4. 18Gal. Rubber Made container?

Hippo, Try a farm co-op in your area. Maybe Tractor Suppl Corp has them if you live in the south...
  5. copper grounding probe

Bathrooms use GFCI IAW local building codes in my area without a grounding probe to the sink/tub whatever... Connected with PVC plumbing which is an effective insulator leaving the container ungrounded. They still work, they saved my mom's but when the curling iron she had warming up fell into...
  6. What paint to use for my background?

Most everyone on the GD board says just use rustoleum painting the outside of the tank with light coats. I use the mylar backgrounds from petsmart etc, ecxept I just use blue not the stupid corral pattern
  7. copper grounding probe

Lowes should have had something better than a drill bit. What about a pice of SS allthread? that would be better than the drill bit... I hoped you cleaned the bit reallly good as they are coated in oil when shipped......
  8. Books that you recommend

The marine aquarium reference and the marine aquarium handbook. Both of them by Martin Moe. Search Amazon for books written by martin a moe... Good luck and have fun. I really enjoy my FOWLR.
  9. Moving tank Questions

I would have to agree with jazzy, I would be REAL carefull moving the tank with the sand, you might want to fab a jig to place under the tank in the the car to support it correctly. at the least I would put a heavy layer of eva foam over a plywood sheet (at least 1/4") that is 54"x24" if you...
  10. I give up! LONG!

After replying I noticed you have both a RODI and a yellow. try forcing the yellow to eat alge by not letting him eat with the other fish. Or get another pair and make them eat alge before you feed him. just a thought.
  11. I give up! LONG!

Relax man, Don't give up and waste all of your money/time. Remember this is supposed to be a hobby, not a contest to see who can really spend the most money (gadgets r cool though). Anyway, when I got my tank from a buddy who was going back to the navy he had a hair alge ISSUE! he would let...
  12. bizarre fish behaviour

Steve, The Wrasse eats like a pig. Mysis shrimp are his favorite, but he will destroy some brine flakes, or nori if the tang lets him near it. I posted back when I got him asking about his eating habbits and everyone slammed me for buying him. Well he eats like a pig, no matter what I feed...
  13. Moving tank Questions

I had to move my Oceanic 58 Three Months ago. I used all new water, and moved all of my fish in a bucket which I got from Dunkin Doughnuts (Dounught filling comes in white 5g buckets and is non toxic and free if you ask.) AS long as you mix your water ahead of time you will be Ok. You should...
  14. bizarre fish behaviour

I have some interesting fish behavior as well. We have a 58g in my office which I maintain. I have two precula clowns, a yellow tang, and a cleaner wrasse. The two clowns are not supposed to graze on alge, the yellow is not supposed to dig his nose in the sand, and the wrasse has a habbit of...
  15. Reef Newbie Questions

Get some good books on the hobby and read before you pitch your discus. I started out with ciclids before I got into marine. Fish only with live rock tanks are easier than full reef tanks in my opinion, but I also liike things that I can see moving, coral is cool but I'll do that later. Your...
