  1. Back at it

Just got back on the wagon! After moving to MD I had to give up the 3 tanks that I had before. Giving my tanks to a family member that was crazy about sw reef tanks I thought that it was the best option, and heck, they might love the hobby as much as my family and I did. Well, the tanks crashed...

  3. algae

Thank you for the welcome to MR!! I LOVE this site. It was actually referred to me by a good friend. Yeah, i know about the coral beauty. I tried to tell the wife that, but you know how that goes. lol.. He will more than likely be moved to one of the other tanks b4 the corals start to come. As...

I have recently set up another tank. This one is a 40 gal (already cycled). It is going to become a reef tank after it matures for a few months. I know that it is part of the setup process, but how long does it usually take for diatom algae to clear up? I can not remember how long it took with...
  5. Finally took the SW plunge...

Within 2 days of replacing them the nitrates went from a unhealthy level to zero. I highly recommend the media baskets, best investment that I had ever made for the...
  6. Finally took the SW plunge...

One thing that I have learned is when doing water changes/adding water, put a bowl in the tank under the water. Fill it into the bowl, this will take the impact off of the sand, keeping the tank clear.. :splitspin
  7. Biocube

Since the last post I have replaced the bio balls in both tanks with the intank media baskets. Within a day or two the nitrate levels are around zero in both tanks. Thank you for everyone's help...
  8. Biocube

Ok.. Thank you all for the advice. I will be getting rid of the bio balls in the coming days and let you know how I made out. Thanks again... :thanks:
  9. Biocube

Ok.. Thank you everyone for the replies. I need to be quick here, getting ready for work. So getting rid of the bio balls seems to be the overall chosen answer. Now the question that I have is should this be done over time, or can it be at once, since there is live ones in the tank?? Thank you...
  10. Biocube

Hello All, I am new to M.R's as well as kind of new to the hobby, and I was wondering a few things. I have recently have been getting nitrate spikes in both of my BC 8 & 14 (reef tank) tanks. I have been doing some research on the topic and I have found that a lot of people have gone the...
