  1. Phosguard

question: why doesn't the aquarium chemical market use ferric hydroxide (iron rust)? It's super cheap in bulk, and when rinsed, works like a champ. Is there a similar problem with iron leaching into the tank?
  2. home made, dry, one part, balanced addition

tagging along, I'd like to hear about solid form possibility. I'm going to start using the dissolved mix for now though, thanks for your efforts Randy!
  3. I can't find Knucklehead's SCWD plumbing picture

Here's a picture of what a local reefer did with one of those SQWD's... same size tank too, but this involved a lot of 1" bulkheads :)
  4. RO/DI system configuration - Please avoid my mistakes (long)

Hmm, maybe I need to get a TDS meter and investigate on this... thanks for the information!
  5. RO/DI system configuration - Please avoid my mistakes (long)

While I agree that RO creep happens, I don't worry about it, because my DI catches anything that the RO misses for the most part, and my DI is changed out, as a kit, when I change out my sediment and carbon filters (every 9 months to a year). If you guys are running RO/DI, and aren't trying to...
  6. home-made liverock PH question

Welp, I'll be honest, I was just following one of many sets of instructionsj (one set is on garf.org)... all of them call for the curing to happen in freshwater. I did check my local tap water, and it's reading a PH of 7.0.
  7. home-made liverock PH question

Hi, I've been curing a chunk of homemade LR (mix of concrete, sand and crushed coral)... I checked the PH for the first time after curing in freshwater almost a month. The PH read somewhere between 8.4 and 8.8 on my high range freshwater PH test. The rock's still got a while to cure it...
  8. Yellow tang with reddish areas

Either of those possibliities could be the problem; I've been overrun (currently recovering) from a brown algea problem, and the tang's been eating a lot of it; I've also slacked off on feeding him the dried seaweed strips that have been his diet in the past because it seemed he liked the brown...
  9. Yellow tang with reddish areas

Hi all, I have a yellow tang that's got a nagging reddish coat that's on his tailfin and parts of his torso. No other fish are affected (Coral Beauty angel, green damsels, clownfish). The tank (100G, 9 months old) is coming back from a nasty cucumber death (killed all featherdusters and...
  10. EMERGENCY in Mississippi!!! Help!

Hi, I'm Josh Murrah, and I'm located in Mobile, AL. I have a suitable home for a lot of what you have; I have a 100G saltwater setup, 330W of PC lighting, with a scant 40 lbs. of liverock, and reef-friendly livestock (yellow tang, 4 x green damsels, coral beauty angel and a clownfish). I...
