Actually I was just using the word "dechlorinator" generically - meaning to use a dechlorinator/dechloraminator/ammonia remover liquid added to the fresh tap water before making up the salt mix. The real question still remains, is there any harm in adding one of these chemicals to already...

Hmmm...well, thanks for giving me more food for thought!! I've always done it according to "package directions" so I can't speak to the results if you dechlorinate the salt mix. I usually use Prime for my reef water and it only says "...better if added to new water first" rather than directly...

Hi, I work part time in a SW shop and one of my customers informed me (while trying to trouble shoot his tank, why all his fish have died), that he puts his dechlorinator (I think he might use Ammo-Chlor) right into the saltwater mix IN the tank! Now I'm no chemist but MY bottle of ACE says...

Glenn, the pine one has slats, but I think the oak and cherry have a solid top panel. Good luck!

Rover, All-Glass makes pine and oak canopies. I'm not real sure if they make them small enough to fit a 30, but I have the pine one over my 55. My CSL PC's fit just fine there. They do have a website with all their products pictured. HTH

Thanks for the replies - this is the almost-end of a near disaster anyway, so I'm still freaking a bit. The timer under the tank caught on fire yesterday and burned up most of what was under my reef and went up the back wall. That's why the DH was cleaning...boy am I in trouble! What a mess...
