  1. anyone using Happy Reefing 14k de bulbs?

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Happy Reefing 14k de bulbs. I'm currently using Phoenix 14k's. I love the color, but I've heard you get about 6 months of intensity out of them and need to replace. I like the specs the Happy Reefing de's get on the EVC electronic ballasts...
  2. Anyone using a Phoenix 14k 150w DE bulb? Impressions? Pics?

I am currently using the 250w de's. The color is great but I did notice that they are not as intense as the Hamilton 14k's I had. I believe the intensity goes quick like the other poster stated just by how much weaker they seemed. All in all everything is looking good now about 4 weeks into...
  3. BTA Turned Pure White

I did some more searching and reading concerning photoperiod. Does anyone feel that going from a 12hr period with the VHO to a 10hr period with MH only could have this effect on them? Someone had suggested that I run 11-12hrs with MH only. I think I'm going to try 11hrs for a week or two, then...
  4. BTA Turned Pure White

Thanks guys. I'll just feed them more often and keep an eye on them.
  5. BTA Turned Pure White

Hey guys! I have a quick question for the anemone experts. I've had a BTA for about 4 years now. When I first got it it was tiny and pure white. I put it under 380w of VHO in a 46g and it turned brown and grew like mad and even split. I upgraded my lighting to 500w MH HQI and they split again...
  6. Help with lighting upgrade

I run 2x250w 14k HQI pendants mounted in a hood on my 46g Bow. Some of my existing shrooms and button polyps don't like the intensity so much, but everything else LOVES it! So, decide what you want to do from there, I'm running 12+ watts/gallon.
  7. Water temperature

I agree with low to mid 80's. I've been running my tank for years at 82-83F. It has gone up to 85-86F once or twice in the past and everything was fine. around 90F is where things start to melt down IME.
  8. Coral Beauty and Clams

I made my decision and brought the clam back. It was the right thing to do since I didn't want it to suffer. I'll do clams after the CB is gone. Thanks again!
  9. Coral Beauty and Clams

Thanks for the replies. I know one has to go before the clam suffers. I'm going to make my decision today and do something about it when I get home from work. So far it looks in favor of keeping the fish and waiting on the Clams. Anymore advice is appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Coral Beauty and Clams

Hello, I know there is a ton of information on this subject and I took my chances and added an Ultra Crocea Clam with an existing Fiji CB. I noticed that almost immediately he started nipping at the mantle. I have a really large open brain in the tank and he has never touched it or any other...
  11. Metal Halide Bulb Brand Recomendations

I've heard alot of good things about phoenix also. Might be worth a try. As for my Hamilton issue, I spoke to Hamilton and they told me that the bulbs do vary in blueness and are very unstable in the beginning until they burn for 100hrs. Atleast for DE's anyway. So I'll see in a couple of weeks...
  12. Metal Halide Bulb Brand Recomendations

I'd like to ask the Hamilton 14k user a question. I currently am running 250w Hamilton 14k DE bulbs and have some inconsistencies. One of them has some blue in it while the other is really white with an almost tint of aqua green if you look at the sand. The bluer one has trouble firing sometimes...

  15. to sump or not to sump

I know this is an old thread but if any new people come across this and ask the same question I have an answer. If the tank is relatively small an Aqua-C remora or remora pro skimmer w/overflow box and sumpless is the easiest you can get. I've been running my 46bow sumpless for over 4 years and...
