  1. attaching frags underwater

Great - thanks to everyone. Jim
  2. attaching frags underwater

Thanks, I thought you needed to use the expoxies above water until cured. Jim
  3. attaching frags underwater

I have a few frags that I would like to attach to some of my larger pieces of LR. I really can't remove the Lr without a major project. I want to attach the frag to the Lr underwater instead of taking out the Lr and gluing it. Will plummers putty work? Thanks, Jim.
  4. Black powder reef additive

Powdered snake oil. Just my opinion.
  5. Fritz Zyme Turbostart 900...cycles a tank in 2 days?

I used it to start my 180 gallon. Works great. I was skeptical. Sounded like a Marc Weis snake oil to me, but seems it's pretty common here in Fl. LFS's all say the problem is shelf life and needs to be refriged. Some won't carry it because they can't always sell it all and get stuck. It does...
  6. MH bulb orientation

Thanks. I looked at the bulbs. They say Hamilton 175w/U 1000k German. HHmmm? I would think Hamilton would know their stuff but the first person I talked to didn't have a clue as to what I was asking about and had to get some guy who said he never heard of it. This was Hamilton's tech support...
  7. MH bulb orientation

I was on the phone with Hamilton today and mentioned the bulb orientation - meaning that I've always heard that you want to have the filiments (wires in the bulb) at a 90 deg angle to the water surface if your bulbs are horizontal. Their tech guy says he never heard of it. That's what I've...
  8. A Question about Garf.

I've had good luck with them. Seem like descent people. What I purchased arrived healthy, on time and was what I expected. No false advertising. I think some people have ordered and wasn't aware they they are selling frags and not large colonies. As far as I'm concerned, they're just another...
  9. Too much Co2

Wow. Thanks for all the replies. Marco provided some good articles. I think I understand ph/alk/Co2 a little better. I do have low and falling Ph at times. I need to get some fresh air in here. If you go to the NatuReef site, ( a popular brand in here in Fl) www.natureef.com, at the bottom is...
  10. Too much Co2

Thanks, I've about won the algae battle. I did most of the same things. Only I have next to zero nitrates. I had a small (<.02) amount of Po4 but removed with my Po4 filter. I had read on a site about how they test your water so you can check your calibration or get help with a problem. I knew...
  11. Too much Co2

I sent a sample of my water out to be tested at Coral Reef Research because of a hair algae problem I've been battling, but winning. I did the usual - phosphate removal, shortend photo period, etc. They told me my biggest problem is high Co2 and high Co2 partial pressure(pCo2). They checked for...
  12. Help with hair algae

I have a 180 gallon reef aquarium which has been esablished for over 1 year. I am now experiencing a hair algae problem that seems to be getting worse. It came in on a coral and is spreading. I had culerpa growing and it did a big die-off. I figure that enabled the hair algae to eat what the...
