on every spectrapure I have seen the yellow is the "waste water" and the blue is good.

I used a apparent expired bottle of DT's once, smelled fine..but I think it was the shipping, clouded up my tank real good but thats about it no water chemistry problems, I did a 25% water change and ran some carbon..it didn't really have a smell at all.

i got spiked by a yellow tang once while trying to catch him, it was not pleasent

tanzy: you are right about that, but thats in a pretty extreme case

well, it does absorb nitrates, but it means you have a excess nutrient in your tank (sometimes phosphates), it isn't harmful to the tank other then being unsightly.
