This would be great if it pans out, especially for fish only systems. I wonder if there's a scientific way to test this. Maybe getting some ammonia and cyling an empty tank this way would probably prove this works. Not to mention the saving on at least 1 extra pump and alot of room. ps...
so design a skimmer with the lower section with bio balls / substrate that air can pass through and then close it off with a plate (tank divider) and / 2nd chamber in the riser tube for air to rise freely .. and you now have a 2 in 1 combo .. super fluidized wet dry / skimmer in one.
I am interested in this myself. I think it should work if you have enough sand bed depth yet have water still pass through without oxygen. It's tricky. I wonder how effective those denitrating coils are.
I'll look into the juice container idea. Maybe a gatorade bottle. They have a wider gap and a more stable base. How do you make a calcium reactor out of a coke bottle?
Hi, just curious, has anyone tried to use a plastic 2 liter coke bottle for a fludize sand filter or as a substrate reactor? I'm thinking this should be pretty quick and doable. powerhead with hose to the bottom of the bottle and water flow out from top. no / little work required.
