Got a 29 oceanic AIO. Saphire skimmer. Goal is low-key, basic tank. Couple softies and a couple fish w CUC. I know everyone upgrades, but this is my second time around and have no interest in getting big...again.
I've got the salt and the sand ready but not in the tank. Also have 2 pieces of "formerly" live rock from my old tank 3 years ago. I guess that makes it "base" rock. Each piece about the size of a double fist. Couple lbs each?
I figure i'll need about 35-40 lbs of LR eventually which i'll buy over MR as i can find it...either in a few small lots or if i find someone willing to part w 35 lbs. I'm in no rush so thinking fussy, cheap and local...in that order.
Is there an issue with adding LR in small amounts? Will it cause spikes? Should i add the base rock before, with, or after i buy the LR? Or is it too small an amount to be noticed.
Any other thoughts or suggestions before i get started?
