So the grueling day finally came. Being up at Staten Island by 5:30am and not running until 10:20am, but as expected, I FINISHED!
Of course it was one of the most grueling events I have ever taken part in but to be involed in an international viewed event is priceless.
For those who ever ran the a marathon, I commend you.
Especially those who hit the wall at mile 18 and know there is 8.2 miles to go. Running in all five boroughs is amazing. Now i know what next years race brings. NYRR did an excellent job organizing this event.
The jouney through 5 boroughs (26.2 miles) is exactly what it is.

But I am proud to say, I DID IT!!!!

See pic below. My Fiance took a picture at the finish for me.
That smile on my face disappeared after the 18 mile.
I also wore a superman cape which helped me run to the finish since people kept cheering Go Superman!!

FYI: The cape doesnt give you any special powers.

Lol... I was working at about 6 1/2, and one of the guys with me saw you and yelled Go superman... I saw your cape as you ran by. Good job finishing! Next year, I may finally do it. I've never ran more than 13 miles, but I think I can do it if I don't try to go for any time goal.

Great job, what was your finish time. I ran 4:40 in 2005 and have guaranteed entry in '08. For fear of sounding 'snobby' but a non-runner doesn't know the mental toughness you exhibited to complete this race. Congratulations.
P.S.
it helps to walk backwards down steps - trust me!

Thanks.
I was like after mile 17 wanted to take the cape off due to too much cheering.
The smile was totally gone until the last few yards to the finish.
It was fun and i gave like a billion high 5's to people.

I met a few people that I knew but other than that, I was trying to focus on completing the race. The longest i've run was a 14.2 mile Tip to tip of manhattan so this is way on top of that accomplishment list.

Since a bunch of you saw me, did my facial expressions show signs of exhaustion? heheheheh. I know it did.

Congrats on an accommplishment that can never be taken away from you.

My cowrker told me when he accomplished finishing the NYC Marathon in the mid 90's that it was the coldest day recorded for a marathon. I was fortunate to be able to wear shorts.

Being a finisher in a Central Park Duathlon (Run 2M/Bike 12M/Run 2M) and NYC Marathon (26.2M) marks a few high accomplishments this year.
Now its time to add to this lst for 2009. Always a first.

Thanks JP.

As for those other costume runners, I didnt see them. My fiance took the pics since they were ahead of me in the earlier wave. Thought it was hilarious someone would run in a piece of string.
