Harrassing phone calls

I keep getting prank calls from some telemarters called ' Auto Warranty. ' The first time they called was a few weeks ago and I asked them to take us off their calling list and informed them that our number is on the government's Do Not Call registry. I filed the online complaint but the website states that they dont handle individual complaints but rather use the info for law enforcements yada yada. Anyway I received a few more phone calls so the last time I pretended I was interested in what they offered and asked to speak to a manager. I didnt have high hopes as I know how these places operate - I used to work in one when I was in high school - and most of the workers are teenagers. Well they gave me a guy who pretended to be a sympathetic manager and went through the motions and now they call even more frequently. They called a few minutes ago and woke up my family ( not the first time). It is an out of state area code - Florida - so I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions? I plan on calling the phone company in the morning but dont know that they will do anything either.

I'm pretty sure you can block certain numbers by telling your phone company.

i got that same auto warranty call some time ago on my cellphone. it usually happens when you give your number out to a particular person or company. its a shame i cannot remember who i ave it to because i am usually very careful with my cell

I've gotton calls and mail with this con.......A friend played a joke by answering and explaining they called a crime sceen and he was needed, to come down to the police station to discuss why he was calling or knew after someone was murderd. I just replied with ,I'd like to disscuss with wife ,give me a name & number I can call you back at and they just hung up.Good luck with stopping the harassing cons out there.let us know the results or was able to nip it in the butt.

i saw a funny skit on tv when these two guys just kept passing the phone to each other saying hold on you gotta ask my brother. they did this on and on until the person on the other end almost went nuts!

What do you mean by prank calls? Were they breathing heavy? Maybe your landlord gave them your number.:lol:

I normally do mess around with these people but they're not interested in making a sale at this point, only harrassing my family by calling at all hours of the day and night.

Update - I called Verizon and got the phone number for the unlawful calling department ( posted below for everyone's benefits ). The rep from that department told me that the FTC has an open investigation into these ' Auto Warranty ' calls because it is a scam that has been going on for a while now and is pretty widespread but unfortunately they cannot do much to help me since the number is not a Verizon number. She told me my best option was to go to my local precinct and file a phone harrassment complaint since the calls are coming after hours and then the police might be able to pursue it further though she wasn't able to elaborate on that.

Aggravated Harrasment requires a threat and for you to fear for your safety. Being annoying is not Harassment J sorry the precinct will tell you that and leave. Contact the do not call dept people see what they say.

I have been getting harassed by my student loan companies, but I guess that is because I am poor and owe them an @ss load of loot!

You can request that they limit all contact to writing if you want them to stop calling. The difference here is that I've never done business with these lowlifes, I've asked them to stop calling and they are a recognized scam.
