OK guys, if the racoon is healthy, not to worry about diseases, etc. They are very clean animals, I raised one believe it or not in center city in an apartment in the mid 70s. Some kids were torturing it in a fountain, and I bought from them for $25, kitty litter trained it, and possibly the best pet I had other than my two sheepdogs. You do have to spend an amount of time with them, from when they are young, I had mine about 2 years, it got use, and eventually let loose in Valley Forge, PA, dut to going to Europe for a few months, no one takes a tame racoon. Also, right after I got it, I took it to the vet for the same shots you would give a cat, distemper and rabbies.
Rocky, of course was his name, and walked on a lease, or sat on my shoulder, became very protective of me, love my girlfriends, and all my male friends, where scared of him, big teeth and claws. His favorit except for fish, was sugar crisps cereal, would almost do anything for them, he did have hands like a monkey, left me kitchen window open at night, and he roamed the rooftops of center city philly, came back home about 6am, would sleep in the top shelf in my closet, or top drawer of chest of drawers, open each drawer going up until he got into the top.
I doubt my wife will let me have it, although my son would love it, please keep me posted, make sure it gets plenty of water, and you can feed him tender vittles, cat food, mine loved that, then again, don't know how young it is, mine was about 10-12" when I got him. I did become pretty famous in Philly, walking around in my buckskin jacket, popular back then, with Rocky on my shoulder. I eventually got a call from Range Ricks Natural Kid magazine, they heard about me and Rocky and took shot of him, and he became Ranger Rick for one year*(Ranger Rick was of course a Racoon.)
My father was pissed when I let him go, since I had him trained so well.
