Hi guys & gals I'd like to know if anyone on MR has, has ever had a Bichon Frise? Male or female does not matter. I would just like to know more about this breed of dog. I have always been in love with these little guys/gals. I think they are so beautiful, and every thing I've read about them signs their praises. So now I would like some first hand experience.
Please let me know what you think of them. I would like to one day have the pleasure to share my home with one.

My dog is half Bichon, half shih tzu. My GF's mom has two Bichon's. They're great dogs. They are very smart, they don't shed, and live relatively long. They do however need consistent grooming because their fur has a tendency to get matted.

Thank you DrGonzo, jRobbins & DrCooper!!;) The info you guys are giving me is consistant with all I've read so far.:)

Doc, yes I do have pitties!:) Right now I am still in the learning about Bichon's.:) But my dogs are good guys/gals. They share our home with not only the 5 cats, but with my grandaughters (ages 10 & 8).
Not sure if, and when I will under take on the care of a Bichon. But when I am ready I will my very best for a rescue one as all the other other animals in my home were rescued. Probably years from now when I am no longer able to care for large dogs.:) lol

As far as little dogs this is the one that had stolen my heart years ago!! They have such a wonderful expression. I sense that there isn't a mean bone in all of their little bodies. Besides, I love the White Powder Puff look.;)
I agree I think it would be interesting to see my pitties with a tiny dog compared to them.lol They'd probably think it is another cat.:biglaugh:

My Grandmother has one Awilda. They're neat dogs. She doesn't bark a lot, and you're right that she doesn't have mean bones in her body. Always happy to see everyone. Very observant and happy to see my G-ma.

My fiancee's parents have a Havanese. Not a Bichon, but they're small dogs and I draw parallels between the two. Very smart, friendly dog. Doesn't bark too much either. (Unless you're sitting on 'her' blanket, lol)

I just recently lost my Bichon after 15 wonderful years. They are a great breed to have. Super with children and will give you endless unconditional love. The only thing that breed wants is to be with its owners. There is a breeder in Wantagh called Waterfall Bichons. Losing my dog was like losing
a family member.

Dan-O, I am terribly sorry for your loss! I know the pain well.:(
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with this beautifull species of dog that I hope to one day share my home with.:)
I am trully looking forward to that day! I thank you as well for the referral, but I much prefer to adopt from the pool of animals who are in desperated need of a home.;)

DrGonzo, beautifull pic of a beautifull show Bichon straight from the groomer!;)

Nelson, we currently have 2 pitbulls, 1 bandog, 5 cats, 1 red ear slider turtle - 20 years old, or perhaps even older!
Do I have to count the fish as well?LOL

Sorry, took so long to reply! Was in surgery this morn., just felt well enough to reply.:) I am well!! No need to worry!
