Hi,

looking for some advice on a digital camer. I want one that works well, but I do not need 3+ megapixels, and do not want to pay that price. Anywere from 1.5 - 2 megapixels would be fine for me, (optical zoom would be nice though). Any Suggestions (would like to keep it under $200 if that is still possible, and under $150 better)

It will be hard to find cameras below 3 megapixles anymore.

Also optical zooms are not just nice, they are absolutely necessary! Do not buy a camera with digital zoom only (better to use no zoom). Digital zoom just makes the picture fuzzy.

As far as brand recomendations, I have no idea in that price range. Sorry

Nowadays, for under $200, you can get 3 megapixel cameras :D The Canon A75 (retail $229, street price below $200) would be my recommendation.

Oh, and yes, digital zoom is a no no. All digital zoom does is crop a portion of the sensor and magnify it (via interpolation) to set resolution. This is never as good as optical zoom.

Trying to play with my Sony Cybershot... totally different taking pics of tanks. I think I have to use autofocus on this camera, dont see any manual focus. Do you need manual focus to make the pics come out real nice? I find whenever I try to get really close things get blurry.

I may have your anwer here. I've owned a FujiFilm Finepix 3000 since last Christmas and we absolutely LOVE it. It has LOADS of photo modes. 3.2 MP (hard to find much less than nowadays). Looks real cool too :) Check it out. I recommend it. Should cost around $200 I think.
