I am getting one for me right now! Yay.

I am really liking the Canon Powershot S2-IS. Anyone used one? The only downside I can see right now is there isn't an underwater housing.

Any other advice would be most welcome.

Price range? IMO, I think you should save up a bit for a dSLR like the Nikon D50 or Canon 350, both of which I'm sure will have good UW photog support.

Thanks Len!

I don't think I can afford a dSLR and related lenses and equipment. I also like the 'all in one' idea because I mostly shoot video while traveling and want the still camera to supplement. I think I am going to buy S2-IS today, even though there isn't currently an UW housing because my Oly died over the weekend and I primarily use the camera for dry shots.

As for price range, since I am keeper of the kid, I really have no income, but have had an odd windfall of about 800 bucks.

I hate buying new gear - too many choices!

If u like all in one and don't wanna swing an slr or dslr then check out the nikon coolpix line of cameras. u should be able to get a very fine toy for less than 800 bux. i have owned 5 digicams and by far the best, most rugged, highest quality pix, and most easy to use for reefing were my nikon coolpix's ... i am currently saddled with a fujipix. i would like to pimp slap everyone that gave it a good review.

Thanks!

I really want more zoom than the 3.4x the nikon provides. The cannon I am looking at has 12x optical zoom with a super macro mode that lets you get closer than 1 inch.

I'd also consider the Fujifilm FinePix S5500. The Gun Lux "semi-universal" housing will work for this camera, so that's a plus.

I picked up the S2. Like it, but am having buyers remorse. I guess if there is no underwater housing I can sell it later.

Here is a pic I just took. The baby cuttle is about 8 mm.

nice pic.

To hell with the buyers remorse on anything electronic. We all know they'll be out of date in less than a year, but it's sill a new toy.
