After the tank cycles I would say depending on your tank load and water parameters 10% water change once a monthMaintain the filters also once a month.

By the way I want to thank the people that have replied my threads even if drunktank dosent think I should be posting so many new threads. Since I join this web site I have learned so much and I feel like I can do this and with Baby steps get thru it. I learned that at first people have made mistakes, and those people have help me in not to make those same mistakes. I learned about a bad crab in my tank, dead coral and new equipment that I need. Again I am really thankful to all that have replied my threads, sorry if anybody else felt like drunktank.

Don't sweat it. Some folks on this site are quick to share their thoughts but most of the time they don't mean anything by it.

Keep asking questions, especially if you are getting answers. With about 1000 people on this site, someone should have the time/desire to answer almost any pertinent question. This hobby is one where we all share information at every level, that's one of the best things about this site. It is a great learning forum and I wouldn't ever want that to stop, either.

how often should I clean my tank ? Water changes? Whats the procedure?

When it's dirty! I'm pretty anal about the front of my tank and clean it almost daily for my viewing pleasue, some people clean more or less often. I also change my water pretty often. Without a skimmer, I'd probably change your water quite a bit. Test your water for nitrates weekly at first and do a partial change if they get too high. After a few months you should be able to gauge when you need to do what and set up a schedule.

On another note... drunktank really wasn't trying to be rude, but the more you read up, the better you'll be. If you find conflicting information (there is a lot of it), drop a post and ask about that. You can also search the site to see if someone has already asked your question. This way you get your answer right away. I researched this hobby for a year before starting my tank and learned more within a week of starting my tank than I did in a month of reading. You will make mistakes, you will lose livestock and if you stick with it, you will learn and have a great tank at some point. It's an awesome hobby.

Whoops, forgot the cleaning regimen. 10-15% water change and detritus siphon weekly (back glass too). Algae (film on glass and nuisance) cleaning every 2-3 days.

The whole house keeping thing could a lengthy discussion and information got here may contradict what you have read elsewhere.

IMO, there is no "the only way of doing it", just try and error and as long as no major changes to the tank would be viable. For example, don't do 50% water change, clean the sand by stirring everything up....

As for cleaning the glass, it depends on 2 major issues, your viewing pleasure and the conditions of your tank. Some tank gets aglae on them much quicker than another one. It's up to you to decide. If you let too much aglae grow on them, eliminating them in the future will harder while if you clean too much and skim a lot, then they will no food for the vegerterian filter feeders and even some corals will now depend only on expensive high power lighting.

I have tanks that needs to be cleaned once every months and tanks that need to be clean once every three four days but I never clean those. So you get what I saying, I hope.:birthday:

Wingnut! :bablefish

err... bad advice! You can syphon the top portion where crap settles but I don't recommend stirring the whole thing up all at once!

It seems to me he said DON'T do 50% change and DON'T stir the whole thing up all at once.

How to stop the sand from being siphoned out?

Opps, my bad, confusing writing on my side, should have been like this

"IMO, there is no "the only way of doing it", just try and error and as long as no major changes to the tank would be viable. For example, don't do 50% water change, DON'T clean the sand by stirring everything up, DON'T ...., DON'T...."

*RED* is added to make the statement read clearer
