Can I have about 2 inches of water evaporation a day? Yesterday I added water to the tank because I noticed the water level in the sump had gone down. I have a water height line drawn on the sump that I try to keep it at. Today that water level was down by around 2 inches. My skimmer isn't drawing aot of skim. Skimmer is set up 1 week today and I still haven't filled the cup. I have maybe an eight of an inch of skim in the collection cup. There are no leaks in the system either. What gives? I'm totallt baffled. Anyone else have this problem?:scratchch

I get about 5 gallons of evaporation per day on my 120g. Please list your equipment age and dimensions of the tank.
Everything is brand new. Tank has been setup for 1 week. Pro Clear 125 sump. 3 inch live sand bed, 90lbs LR, Coralife 125 skimmer all on an AGA 65 gal tank. Dimensions are 36x18x24.

the 2" of evaporation is normanl if you don't have any glass covers on your tank. I suggest to keep it uncovered like you probably do.

How hot you keep your room where the tank is?

2" of water in the sump don't really mean too much to anyone unless you state the size of the sump, 2" of water in a 10 gallon size sump and 2" of water in a 40 gallon sump are not even close in volume. How many gallons of topoff water are you adding back in to get the water level back in the same mark?

It is normal ,nothing you can do about water evaporating ,some get 1 gal day some 5 then other get more ,,,water movement + heat )room temp) will create evaportion .the big the tank and open area with movement and heat (room temp) will have more evaporation

I have a 90 gal tank it uses 2 to 3 gals a day of top off water ,then i have 2x 30gal tank plumbed into on 30 gal sump ,ther i have 4 to 6 gal of evap on hot days

taat2d..^^

It would be more helpful if you could explain your problem in correct metric unit^^ i.e the proper metric unit to measure water/liquid is in volume, (gallons or liters).
Here is conversion from inches to gallon = (Lenghth x Width x Height)/231

Sincerely,

i get around 2 gal of evaporation a day with a top on my tank.water is at 77 degrees and room temp in the basement is 65 degrees nothing to worry about just keep a couple of gallons of r/o water handy.and put a small pump with the r/o water so the water isnt sittin still

An air pump or a small water pump. Also I'm sorry I don't know the exact amount of water I'm losing. MY tank is a 65gal 36x18x24. MY sump is the Pro Clear Aquatics 125. The sump demensions are 24inL X 9.5inWX17inH. The room temp is usually between 70-73F.

i think either or but the a small pump would be ideal.its just to keep the water moving
What will happen to the water if you don't put a pump into it? I'm just trying to think ahead cuz my house is kinda tight and the bucket of top off water is gonna prolly be in my closet and I really don't wanna have to run an extension cord in there to pump this water. My wife just about had it with this NEW hobby already. LOL

Keeping it moving will keep the water aerated. I generally make enough top off for a couple days and get the water moving for a bit before putting it in. You'd be better off keeping it moving, but I don't think it's too big a deal to leave it for a day and move it around before using it.

Ok that sounds like it won't be too much of a problem Now my next dilema is finding a decent priced RO unit...... Oh wait I already started that thread.:smokin:
