I just started setting up my 55g reef I added substrate, filled with ro water, added 2 seio 620 pumps added salt also added coralife 125g needle wheel skimmer I am running all of them now but I am having trouble with micro bubbles from the skimmer is this normal for a new setup will it clear up after awhile? Oh I am running the skimmer output into the bubble box that came with the skimmer and still have alot of bubbles.

Thanks Alot Bob

I've not used that particular skimmer but it's not uncommon for new skimmers to have microbubbles in the effluent for a while. If the skimmer is properly designed it will eventually settle down.

Thanks Alot Bob

I have the coralife skimmer, great product.

I had microbubbles for a week or so. Make sure to start, you follow instructions, and keep venturi open only part way (not sure how much, the directions tell you)

The bubble diffuser will need to be cleaned periodically or you will have micro bubbles anytime you trun the skimmer off and restart. I'm talking about that floss pad and coarse grey sponge thing. Plus, it is also just another place for whatever doesnt go into the collection cup to collect.

I turn mine off during feeding.

Couple of things I noticed:

1. When adjusting the flow (not the venturi, but the dial up near the bubble diffuser) watch the reaction in the collection cup for the next 10 minutes or so on and off. It isnt very consitent when you first dial it in.

2. Clean the collection cup often...inside the funnel as well. It works better, and you can see into the funnel better when cleaned.

3. Disassemble and clean the canister itself once a month or two. It wil run better.

It took a while for me to get it to work well, and for the unit to break in completely, but it works great.

I did a mod on it for my own sake. I drilled a hole on the side of the collection cup up near the top, added large diameter airline tubing, and ran that into a 5 gallon bucket. There were jus too many close calls with the cup ready to overflow. Now I could care less if it does while I am away from the house for a while.
