Hi all,

I am mixing DI water and Coralife salt to create my seawater for my tank.

As this is a brand new tank, I'm going to mix my inital seawater mix right in my 75 gal tank.

Now, when I make up seawater for partial water changes, if I have extra mixed saltwater, how long can I store it for ? During storage do I need to keep air and heat going in the storage container ?

I know I need to keep air/heat going 24 hours prior to use, then can I stop air/heat during storage, then 24 hour prior to use again add air/heat.

Thanks

Bonnie

You can store it in any food grade container. If you keep it mixed/airated I do not think it has a shelf life. Personally I would not store it for more than a few days with out circulation. I have not data to back me up, that is what I feel comforable with.

As Wazz said, if you keep it aeriated it'll be fine, but if you keep it more than a few days be careful of evaporation changing the SG. I always had at least 50 gallons of makeup water at all times, and if I only used 1/2 of that at a time I'd mix fresh R/O and salt right in the 'leftover' water. Never had any problems doing it that way.
