I just started puting live stock in my 55 i have a goby,2 sandsifting seastars, black serpant seastar, some herrmits and 2 turbo snails.
The question I have is does anyone know how often sandsifter stars
spawn mine spawn I noticed 2 spawns about the size of a penny. I already talked to the LFS they will buy them when they get about the size of a quarter dont know how much ill get though. Well i was just curious.
(and exited to have spawns i didnt know they reproduced in captivaty. )
thanks gost

do you have pictures? I'd be interested to see them.

Somehow I'm thinking you may have asterina stars.

Sand Sifting starfish, unfortunately, starve in our aquariums before they can reproduce. They do not ship well, do not acclimate well, and do not last well in our aquariums.

Sand Sifting Starfish do not eat detritus. Many uninformed fish store people will tell you they do. They eat the things that helps the sandbed function - fanworms, spaghetti worms etc. Once those are gone from the sandbed ... weeks or months if you are lucky - they will bury themselves in the sand and decompose after they starve to death and die.
