The sponge-snot in my tank is reaching plague proportions (I seriously see more every few hours 8O ) and I want it gone or at least maintained. Is there ANYTHING that will eat sponges? A snail, crab, fish? This stuff is really unattractive and I don't want it controlling every rock surface in my tank. :(

Lutra--I think I saw some of your other posts, regarding the stuff growing on your rocks, and looked at the photo you linked to.

IME, sponge doesn't grow that fast--usually sponge will grow between rocks, and most often in areas that are not exposed to light.

Based on your description of how quickly this stuff is growing--I really doubt it's sponge. It doesn't look like sponge to me.

You need to get a good ID on whatever it is so you can get advice on how to address it. I can't help with that. You might send a PM to davidmohr--he's a very good ID expert around here.

Hm, okay thanks. That thread had been sitting awhile and I was getting freaked out by the growth. I wondered if it was sponge, I researched it after someone mentioned it and the fact that I could have that much when it required the right lighting and current and all amazed me. However, it is all in the open, right under the lights and in a good current. So obviously the ooze is thriving. I think I'm going to toss some turbo snails in there tonight and see what they do.
