Hi,
I have a 28Gal FOWL tank that I am upgrading to reef setup. I have purchased 2 T5 30" lights and a skimmer.
Because of the way I have tank setup (it divides my dining room from Living room) all my 'stuff' is at the end, so I made a glass cover but the glass was getting salt deposits and thought it would cut down the light penetration so I made up a 3" canopy that my light sit on, this raised the light away from water surface, but now I seem to get a lot of evaporation.
Could I again attach glass within my home mage canopy without inhibiting the light penetration.

yeah you can put the glass back on and it wont inhibit the lights. Unfortatuly you will have to clean the glass once and a while, its the mature of the beast. I have a class top with a canopy and i still get saltwater splashes on it but it wont effect the light untill its really covered.

Or, you can simply make a tank cover out of plastic "eggcrate" light diffuser which should help cut down the evap some. Very cheap at home improvement stores and works very well with no loss of light getting to the tank. Personally, I am not a fan of glass covers ;)
