amount of live rock????

hey guys what is the minum amount of live rock to put in a tank. i have 210 ltrs(55 gal) of water and have 2 canisters 1 power head and a protein skimmer and a uv sterilizer .i have just been try to work out a good amount of rock to put in there any suggetions? thanxs shaz

I am never very good at saying how many pounds of live rocks you need for X gallons of tank, it just depends on so many factors, some live rock is very light and branchy, some is very dense. I think what works out best is to add enough live rock to provide good habitat for your fishes and enough places to put corals. The amount you need for filtration does not seem to be a whole lot, so add enough to keep your fish happy and create a nice look.

Everything I've read says 1 pound per gallon, so in your case, 55 lbs.

Build a rock structure that you like. How much it takes is up to you.

It has been my limited experiance (over the past 3 years) that a more open structure works better than one that is just a big pile of rocks. For instance I have a 65g cube in my living room. There is only about 45lbs of rock in there at the most. That being said much of the rock has lots of holes and so forth in it. Try to make it look interesting. I see lots of reef systems that just have a big pile of rock in the middle.

Also, keep in mind that all the coral you add to it will fill in gaps.
