I plan I running a 10gal refugium in my system (40-gal reef) and I was wondering if sand was critical to have in the refugium? I plan on putting sand about an inch or two thick. Cheato will be in there as well. Any insight is welcome!
i read miracle mud is excellent. i am building a 40 gallon fuge for my 75.
the thicker the better too. i don't speak from experience, but i have read this more then once.
It depends on what you are trying to achieve w/the refug. If it is strictly for nutrient reduction then I would not go with sand at all. If it is to help increase the food levels (copepods, etc) sand would be helpful in that type of setup.
I'm actually looking to do both....so would going with sand be satisfactory for this goal? I want to maintain good water levels and feed my fish a little bit (once i get them). i just started cycling last night.
sounds like a plan to me.
