So I turned on my tanks "night light" which is a 7 watt bulb since I dont have 800 bucks saved up yet for my halides. Anyways I feed my scallop phyto and zoo plankton. WHen I layed down I was staring at my tank waiting to fall asleep when all of the sudden a thing about the length and thickness of a penny started zipping around crazy like in the light. It looked like a sort of miniature squid. Ive also notice small shrimp like things in the tank. Do these zooplanktons grow up in the tank?

I'm trying to figure out your question. Does phytoplankton and zooplankton grow in size? Yes.
If I recall the cell sizes of phytoplankton (plants) are between 15 and 1000 micrometers (impossible to be seen by the naked eye) and zooplankton (animals) between 1 and 5 millimeters (possible to be seen by the naked eye but not the length and thickness of a penny).
What did you see?
Impossible to say without a better description or a picture but it was neither phytoplankton nor zooplankton.

David Mohr

hmm I see, I could swear by it looking like a baby squid jetting around. Thats all I can say, it moved so fast that I couldnt even see any defining features on it. It has to be plankton cause the tanks been set up for a month and the only thing Ive added recently was the plankton and scallop. Its like a UFO moving around....like a .....Underwater Flying Object!!!!!!!!

Blackcloud. Maybe Im confused here but I think that you are moving a little to fast with your tank. Like extremely too fast. In your last post, "HELP MY TANK CRASHED" You stated that you had oysters in the tank which I have read are almost impossible to keep alive due to plankton demands. Now I am reading that your tank has been set up for almost a month and your adding a scallop.
Corect me if Im wrong here with this guess of a time line.
A month ago you set up a tank.
Since then you have added a xenia, star polyps, zoas and a bunch of oysters as you put it.
IN that time you have not been able to get the nitrites and nitrates to level out at zero
IN an attempt to get them down you have added some ammonia detox of some sort and have started dosing calcium.
You have also added a scallop and are asking what the baby shrimp like things are(which are amphipods and copepods by the way) and have been dosing phytoplankon as well. Yet you still have no adequate lighting to speak of.
If I am remotely right here I am sure that most reefers would agree that you need to read alot more and slow way down with the progression of your tank. PLease answer these questions so we can have some better understanding of you set up.

How big is your tank?
How long did you let it cycle for? Did you let it cycle at all?
What is your salinity?
What temperature are you keeping it at
What is your PH?
What kind of lighting do you have at the moment?
Do you have a skimmer?
What kind of circulation do you have?
How many pounds of LR do you have?

Again, please correct me if I am wrong in my timeline assumpion. I ask these questions so we can get to know your set up and answer your questions with a more educated responses in the future.
