HI,
im "noob" if you will to marine aquarium hobby. and when i was at the LFS picking out my LR i grabed an old dead Acropora frag ( i presumed) figuring it would come in handy to wedge a rock in place. well just last week i completed the the inital cycle. well during that process and me slowly increasing my photo period. i had noticed a very small but drastic contrast in coloration start to cover more area on said frag. assuming that it was nothing and that the noob in me was attemping to make it far more than what was the true condition of the peice. well it came time to throw in some inverts to manage the increased algae growth. wile i was observing the behaviors and productivity of them. i realized that there was no algea growing from the contrasting area and that the amount of surface area it covers has increased.

well is possable for any living tissue to spring back in such conditions of the new tank cycle , the slower flow of an All In One system, and from what i read, the sub par lighting provided by my system.

Or lemme guess its just green alge that just happens to be conciderably brighter. i lack access to a decent digital camera so i appologize for lack of further representation of piece in question. thanks for your time and concideration

Hi Guesswhat, and :welcome:

It's hard to say for sure without a picture, but it is entirely possible for an acro frag that appears dead to rebound and come back to life. I've had it happen with frags that appeared dead for a few months, then suddenly they start growing new tissue. This is why I encourage people not to throw out frags that appear dead until they are covered with algae. Once they are covered in algae, they're not coming back.

Good luck with your piece.

I wouldn't give it too much light too fast. That might burn it up.

The rest of what you said is right on.

first lemme thank you for your help. i really appreciate it.

if there happens to be regeneration on this piece and knowing that what ever life there maybe will undoubtably be under some form of stress, keeping that in mind and with the addition of potentaly "burning it". my lighting set up is 2x 50/50 36watt pc,1x 27watt antic pc, and 1x 27watt 10000k pc.

do you think that placement 4in est. below waters surface would have negitive effects? also with any wishful thinking say it gains a foothold and establishes itself. after that it would have addapted to available light intensity and there for shouldn't brown out , if im using the term correctly.

the images are quite poor in quality the original size of the contrast in color was just present around the rim of what i'm guessing had been a polyp. faint but same coloration has became present on other areas of the piece. generaly only the higher edges of stuctures on the rock with that it interestingly appers to develop noticable change in coloration on the areas that had been subjected to concederable abration and damage from me trying to develop my aquascaping.

JEBUS! its Miller time and with that. i thank you again

That green stuff looks more like coraline algae to me. Sorry.
