Lighting advice needed!!!

I've been reading through the forum, but I don't actually see the answer to my question. So, please, experts out there give me your wise advice.
When I see the lighting comparison on the forum all the replies are like this; "250w MH is better than 2x80w PC". To me, that's really dumb. Obviously, 250w is better than 160w. My question is that MH is actually better(brighter) than of the same wattage compatible lightings???

MH is more efficient than PC, so in term of more PAR for your bucks, it beat most of the other players out there.

MH bulbs tend to have betterlight penetration deeper into the bottom of the tank. They also typically last longer than PC or VHO bulbs. A 10k MH is said to last a year, a 14K MH 9 mo., a 20K 6 mo. Vho bulbs are best replaced every 8. Mo and PC every 6 mo. These, at least are the common rule of thumb for optimal SPS growth. Not all reefers follow these guidelines.
