Our Fox Face Lo woke up this morning with something wrong. We have had our tank for 18 mos and never any problems with livestock. He has white mottled bumps on one side near his eye and mouth, and on the fine on same side, which made me think it is ick - ? However, it isn't just bumps - how do I describe this - ? There is also white mucous/flaky substance attached to the bumps.

He is eating and otherwise acting normal.

Of course, it is Memorial Day and neither of our 2 LFS our open - What is this and how should we treat it? Guess we can't treat with anything until tomorrow when the stores re-open.

We have a 20-gal tank that we are just now trying to get set up to move him to. (we kept saying we needed to get our quarantine tank set up and there it has sat....our bad....)

Without a picture it's hard to say, but I'd lean towards a fungal or bacterial infection. Those are usually secondary to an injury of some sort. Ich tends to be more uniform in appearance. I'd get him into a QT and treat with antifungal/AB which is available at most LFS stores.

Can you provide a picture?

While I would not rule out a fungal issue they are extrememly rare in SW so that would not be high on my list. Setting up a Qt is a good precautionary measure. Hows your water quality? Any new fish additions?

Thanks both for your help. We are limited to two LFS where we live. Our favorite called up back on Memorial Day - even tho he was closed - and met up down at the store. He suggested treating the tank with Kick-Ich, which we have been doing, and after one day, the Fox Face looked great! We do have a long-overdue quanrantine tank up and running now.
