Hi everyone,
I have been lurking around here, trying to refresh my mind about reef keeping. I have decided I want to set-up a reef tank once more, in my 24 gallon nano cube. I have lost most, if not all, of the SW info in my mind, and replaced it with FW. So I believe I know what I'm going to stock: 1 Yellow Clown Goby, 1 Six-line Wrasse, and 1 Black and White Ocellaris Clown. Any problems with this stocking plan? I'm going to have a clean-up crew, I'm not quite sure how many I should have quite yet. And my biggest question is about corals, I understand I have fairly low lighting, so I was wondering what types of corals will I be able to have?

Thank you all for listening to my babble, I'm fairly clueless as you can tell. :?:

I don't know if this is the exception or the rule, but I had a six line wrasse mature and one day decide to murder everything else in the tank (it had been perfectly peaceful until then).

If you have standard freshwater lighting (one flourescent bulb), you wouldn't be able to keep any corals. If you have dual flouscents, you might be able to keep mushroom corals (make sure the bulbs are for saltwater tanks). Personally, I think mushroom tanks are pretty, but if you wanted to keep other things, you'll probably have to upgrade.

I have heard that six-lines can be aggressive. I have actually had a couple before, this was a while ago btw, and they seemed perfectly fine in the tank. But I guess we will see. And I believe I have dual compact fluorescents? I'm pretty sure it is a total of 68 watts of light.

Unfortunately most sixlines go evil one day, after they reach full size. Get a watchman goby instead. I concure with Brian5000 you will be fine with softies such as mushrooms, zoos, and leathers. You "might" be able to sustain some of the easier LPS, however, their growth may be slow to nonexistant.

Ah, thank you all for the responses. I will look at the soft corals next time I go to my lfs. Now, does anyone have an recommendation on a fish that will help control any pests that may come? Since I don't want to take a chance with the six-line.

If the fish store is resonably good at maintaining their stock, I think pests are more of a rarity than they might appear after reading forums like this. I wouldn't worry about pests until you actually get one.

Dottybacks, basslets and other wrasses are good predacious fish if you need them. Be careful about mixing them with larger, ornamental crustaceans. In many cases, they won't tell the difference.

fairy wrasses are attractive, and i think they will serve the same purpose as a 6-line.
as for the basslets and dottybacks, i had a purple pseudochromis that was downright evil, so, it might be hit or miss with one of those too :?
