Hello All,

I have some Zoanthids, an LPS Ancor coral, and a bubble anemone. I'd like to feed all of them some meaty food.

I bought some food that comes in solid squares.

How should I go about feeding it to them?

Thanks,
Justin!

I wouldn't worry with feeding the zoas.

The euphyllia corals (spelling) will take frozen brine shrimp, as will the BTA.

Just melt the cube in a glass with tank water. Use a syringe to suck up some food and gently blow it onto the coral.

To aid in the process I normally turn off the current in the tank to keep the food where i put it

I tried what you said.

How long would you keep the pumps off after you put in the food?

So they will have time to eat it.

Thanks,
Justin

You should see them react to the food and injest it. Normally, corals are quite voracious and will happily eat as long as you feed them. I normally keep the pumps off until all the food is eaten or out of sight.

For the anemone, you're going to want to feed it slightly larger food than brine or mysis. Silversides are a very popular choice, and you can usually buy them frozen at your LFS. I've also used fish (tuna, Mahi, grouper and others), shrimp, krill, clams, and just about any other type of seafood I get my hands on. I like to keep the pieces no bigger than half the length of the anemone's mouth.

The Euphyllia (hammer coral) I've had a difficult time getting to eat, but mine has been fine without any direct feedings. Zoanthids seem to be a little hit or miss on what to feed them and how likely they are to take it. As Snowman said, though, I wouldn't worry about feeding the zoanthids directly.
